Did anyone notice this about the c7 or am I blind?
 

When I took a closer look at the pictures of the red stingray at NAIAS it looked like the manual doesn't have an e brake handle?

Did they get rid of the e brake on the manual and put an electronic one or am I just blind?

You must not be here often. Yea, it's an electronic e-brake. The button is located on the center console.

Just more tech stuff to go wrong and make the car un-affordable to future owners.

What happens when you're cruising down the highway at 75 MPH and your 4 year old grandson has his hand resting on the center console and pulls up the E-brake button?

An emergency brake that actually works and probably saves a few pounds as well.

I believe it works on all four brakes rather than just the rear two.

Nothing.. well a warning light maybe.

Can't say I have and I've had a drivers license since 1956. A lot of cars under the bridge since then.

we have it in our z4. its great and works like a charm

nothing. first of all you have to lift it up to activate. Second it doesnt operate once you start moving.

Good Question. Maybe some type of override, i.e., no E brake can be applied when the Car is moving?

In other words, you're saying it is locked out if you're driving down the highway.

In years past, once in 1963(1957 Ford) and again in 1982(1969 Corvette), I've had two hydraulic brake failures occur and had to use the manual E-brake to stop my car before running a red light in both cases. Sorry, but a waning light would have gotten me killed, whereas the manually operated E-brake(at any speed) got me stopped in time.

Hopefully it works really well - seems like there were a lot of threads over the years about the C5 parking brake.

"pulls up" is the same thing as 'lift it up".

If I need to make an emergency stop while the car is in motion, because of hydraulic brake failure, does the floor pan have openings where I can drag my feet to stop the car(like Fred Flintstone)?

Look at the up side, being electric it probably saves weight too I would imagine that there would be no cables, parking brake handle or extra brake shoes in the rear.

Heh, no, that's not what happens. You stop. Fast. And violently. That is unless GM's reprogrammed their electronic brake since the CTS-V's.

That may be the case in your Z4, but it isn't in the 2009 Cadillac CTS-V I had. All four calipers were locked up. I tested it on an open back road with no traffic around me to verify it. And sure enough: the car slowed, violently.

We'll have to see if GM's since reprogrammed the controller to disallow activation while the car is in motion.

:thumbs:read the same thing,..and, as a total "manual" kinda guy,..i'm just thankin' my lucky stars that corvette still makes a manny! period!,...it's now down to a precious handful that even make em in a sportscar?,..what is it?,..porsche still has em,..the vette,..the new viper,..beemer m3's,..i think your stangs,..lancer evo's and subbies,..what else comes as a manual nowadays?,..SO!,..i'm so glad the new vette comes as a manual!....

That's what I expected would happen. As we all know, young children like to touch and feel things. Seems like having that button on the center console is inviting a youngster to see "what will happen if I lift up on this button?". At least with the old style hand brake handle, it is noticeable if they grasp the handle and start pulling up on the handle. Plus it would be in slow motion and they probably wouldn't have the arm strength to lock up the brakes in a violent fashion vs the few ounces and the few milliseconds it would take for a 4 year old to operate an electrical button.

Seems that locating the button on the dashboard to the left of the steering column would be better.

If they lock it out when the car is in motion, then what happens if you do need to make an emergence application of the parking brake? While the parking brake might not be called an emergency brake, it sure is nice to have it if there is an emergency need to top the car.
