Why are bugs drawn to my yellow Vette?
I've noticed that when I wash my Vette, small bugs seem to be attracted to it. Not so noticeable when actually washing. But when drying I see many of them. Even today when the temp is about 50 degrees, sure enough...bugs on the car as I dry it.
I've washed other cars and never noticed this. My wife's car is white, so I would have seen bugs on it. Have any other Velocity Yellow Vette owners noticed this? |
Can't answer for sure BUT, isn't the color yellow used on chemical bug traps to lure the critters to the killing agent? For example, I've witnessed the mosquito traps, generally placed by agricultural people, all over this country and they are yellow. The ones here in AZ. are yellow that are placed to check for certain types of insects that provide problems for citrus.
Can't provide the "scientific" reason, however. I also have noticed bees like yellow and bright red. Anyway just a thought. |
yes!!!!!!!!!!!!! same here, exactly. lil things, i wouldnt call them gnats but more clear colored.
anyway, after washing then wrinse , run it into garage, shut door and dry it off there.. lol they probably thinks its the largest damn yellow flower they ever saw! |
I had a Chevy truck that was the same shade as the VY (different name of course), the bugs loved it. That is one reason I am glad I went with JSB even though I love the VY as well.

yep, my girlfriend has the same issue...always finding lady bugs on it

Yes Sir. Every time I wash mine, bugs are on it. Bees are also drawn to the color. I think they think its a big sunflower.............

Maybe that is why they make bug lights yellow. If I could draw bugs like the ones above I would get the spray paint out...lol

Figured it out !! because VY vettes are soooo hott they can't help themselves and can't control themselves!! Solved!!!!

its because your car is the same as bug guts.....:yesnod:

I also have noticed bees like yellow and bright red. /QUOTE] Yeah. I was riding down the main drag here in town when I first got the car. Top down having a great day... til I stopped at a traffic light wherein a bee got in the car with me buzzing around my head. He disappeared down low. I had to go at the green light. I don't know where the bee is or what his plans are. There's no good place to pull over. I'm 6'2" @ 250 and 61 so jumping quickly outta the car ain't gonna happen. Found a place to pull over but never did find the bee. Oh well, chalk that up to experience. Fifteen minutes later at another light, the same thing happens! I'm not really scared of bees and they usually go away if you don't provoke them. But I gotta wonder what the yellow does to their behavior? Maybe I'll put some bee spray in the car this summer. |

Chevy Dave has the best answer so far.

We notice it at the shop too.... When we have 6 cars sitting next to each other. The yellow ones are covered in bugs... Very odd.

I had a sailboat with a yellow foresail, same issue. Bugs were definitely attracted to it.

08 Z owner here and mine is Velocity Yellow -- I've noticed that as well, bees or bugs in general seem drawn to the damn thing.
I really try not to pay any attention to them - trying to shoo or swat them away will just cause you to have bug guts on your freshly washed vette. Might as well let them scurry around on it for a few minutes and then fly away without leaving a mark. |
