Beware the 335i
 

I sold my H/C/I 00 Vette for a 08 335i and for just over $1,000 I have a car that puts down in the low 400s
I ran a 02 LS1 camaro with full exhaust with LTs a tune and intake and by the time we hit 80 I had him by alil over a car.
This was running just 93octane, no E85 mix. When running a 60/40 mix the car picks up a ton of torque downlow and just pulls forever.

Im not here to start ****, I loved my vette I just wanted to come share incase anyone has ever been interested in a 335i and had no idea how easy they are to mod and how fast they can be.

Also if you want a turbo upgrade you can get RB turbos for $2,999 and put down 500rwhp with 450lbs of torque at 2200

335i with bolt ons and 93 octane is 12.3 in 1/4 mile...h/c c5 should be mid 11


but the I6 sound is noting special to me i would take the m3 V8 even tho the 335i can be faster

Yes thats right. I said I got my buddies LS1 camaro with most bolt ons by alil bit running only 93 octane.
Running only 93 octane it does not feel as fast as my vette. But with the E85 mix its VERY close to where the vette was. My vette put down 434/408

I was thinking an M3 but I couldnt justify the extra money for a car that is even more expensive to mod and cant get very fast unless you throw a supercharger on them which isnt cheap. I dont like the sound of the 335i but thats why it has stock exhaust except for catless down pipes.

Very nice cars! I was actually looking at 06/07 330i coupes before I got my vette. They are definitely nice cars, but given the opportunity I had to take the H/C/I vette. Nothing beats the sound of an ls1 with an aggressive cam and Corsa exhaust :thumbs: Plus it seemed like every Bimmer I looked at was an auto, which is something I will never again have in a sports car/coupe!

See I went from a manual in my vette to an auto 335i the reason for it was I needed a daily lazy car that I didnt have to shift and my trucks too big to park in the parking lots I have to go to everyday so thats my for fun ride.

I have been contemplating on converting to a CTSV coupe or sedan though

great car but lots of rods broken they cant handle any more power than stock google cts-v engine failure

What mods do you have on the 335i for it to put down low 400s on 93 octane? Most dyno runs over 400 I've seen for the N45/N55s have been with meth and/or e85 blend or race gas.

Any remedy for the carbon build up on the intake valves yet? I have a friend with a 335i, and all I ever hear when I go to BMW meets with him is people getting their head walnut blasted because turbo blowby + direct injection = carbon build up.

Im only going off all the dynos Ive seen with comparable mods. 390-410 with no E85 and above 440rwhp with E85 mix. Actually considering mines an auto its probably more like 380rwhp but I do run E85 at times. Like right now.

And eh no big deal with carbon build up, just something that can be done every 50k its not a must and the DIY on it is easy. Takes about 4hrs with taking your sweet time cleaing it with a gun barrel brush and lots of carb cleaner.

How ya like that MPG drop compared to the Vette. V8 M3's are stuck at 20mpg at best Hwy, 335's are not a ton better.

335's are great car, but completely different class of car.

The N45/N55 cars are doing like mid 20 highway MPG I think? Probably not far off from what his H/C/I car was doing.

Overall MPG on my friend's Cobb tuned 335i is comparable to my cammed Z06, if not a tad better in the BMW.

Back to carbon build up though, I only mention it because the same friend's car was at the dealer for like a week as they tried to track down the source of a limp-mode condition. After replacing literally everything on the top, they pulled the heads and cleaned the valves, and that fixed it. And he has less than 30,000 miles. At the local meets, there's always talk of someone's car who goes into limp mode randomly and etc. It seems with all the electronics, it's rather sensitive when it comes to modifications.

Other than power, how would you compare the cars? IMO, the E90 series was a small step backwards in terms of "driving feel" compared to the E46s, still better than the C5 I think though.

I just found/bought a 2008 335i with 12k miles. Love it. It's my wife's convertible though, so no modding frenzy is needed for it. Plenty of power for her.

Beware??? Really...? I love the BMW guy's.. I have yet to run into one that can keep up w either of my built LS1/6 cars.... Now my Z71 Avalanche is a different story... ;)

While great-performing cars, the 335s have been very troublesome, reliability-wise. Fuel issues have been a big thorn in their sides.

Another thing to consider is that a smog-legal A&A supercharger installed in a C5 produces over 500 RWHP. That's 335-stomping power.

WTF is a 335i? You guys crack me up with your assumptions that the whole world knows what you are talking about...this is a corvette forum, not a used car lot. My neigbor's CHT ran over my UTY so I pulled out my VGU and shot him in the IOJM....there.:crazy:

335s are fun. It is definitely a different kind of car. You have to remember that it has over 10 years of newer technology and development. They are hit or miss reliability wise though. I know some with no problems and some that never leave the shop. (I am an administrator for a 300+ member local bmw group) The 135 is actually a little more dangerous imo. Same engine but less weight. It's a shame that neither have an LSD.

The M650i is the only one I look out for. 550 torque from 1500 rpm to redline.

BMer or Corvette, Hmmmm. Let me think a minute, nope only took a second; CORVETTE!!!!

I never drove a E46 but I love the way it handles over my vette. I dont have to worry about the ass end constantly wanting to slide out from under me. The ride is just like what you'd expect from a BMW. I think its a total upgrade over a C5 as far as a daily driver with lots of power.
