Okay, we know prices, but what about markups?
 

So the C7 is going to be affordable thus increasing the demand and target audience significantly....do you think the average dealer is going to charge MSRP for the few C7 allocations they get?

My guess is average markup will be $7,500.00. Unless you got your reservation deposit in early and deal with one of the very few dealers who will sell at MSRP.

I remember when the C6 first came out. You couldn't get one for close to MSRP including many of the dealers who belong to this Forum. Everytime I see Kerbeck offering huge savings on C6's the past few years I get a chuckle. I tried to get a Z06 from them when they first came out in 2006...what a joke! I hope they learned something in 2005-2006. Many of us have not forgotten!

IMHO - there are enough Dealers with enough Allocation who ave committed to selling at MSRP or less that informed buyers will be able to purchase without Dealer Market Adjustments" :thumbs:

There are going to be thousands upon thousands of people trying to purchase a "new 2014 C7 for $51,000.00" Not just the hundred or so here on the Forum. Do you really think that, with exception to stand-ups like Criswell" the average buyer isgoing to see even close to MSRP?

I went through this with the C5 back in the 90's and C6 back in 04/05.

Not trying to be a dream killer but don't start selling your C6's yet folks!

And then, after watching Kerbeck and others do that to Z06 buyers for an entire model year (2006), GM raised the MSRP of the Z06 by $5000 for the 2007 model year. When that happened, I was priced out of them forever.

We already have forum dealers stating they will sell at MSRP.

My case in point....has Kerbeck or Fitchner come out on the Forum advertising and taking orders at MSRP? Stand by folks!

Not everyone uses the Internet in the same manner as we do. I can imagine in LA and other places, dealers will try to mark them up 5 grand for a while until the market settles. Or, they will order 3LT versions and force people up in features they would not necessarily buy if given a choice.

But, I don't blame the dealers. We live in free economy. You can buy from them or you can pass. Eventually, the market will settle.

And, here's my warning to dealers who want to take this mark up/mark down business position:

I tried to get a new Ford GT from my local -- and very large -- Ford dealer. I went in very early and wanted to talk about putting down a deposit.

I was told (very coldly), that the "phone was ringing off the hook" and that if I wasn't prepared to pay at least 50 grand over MSRP, I would not get a car.

I said "thank you very much but I'm not going to do that" and walked out.

I've never considered buying a Ford since.

You are absolutely correct...and I totally agree...it is a free market and dealers shouldn't be trashed because they want to make as much profit as possible It is this free market that has made it possible for me to fully retire at 48 y/o and own all the toys I want. If I decide I want a C7, mark up is not going to stop me.

I am just trying to remind everyone that these prices, in most cases, will not be close to what these cars sell for over the next year or so. There are tens of thousands of people worldwide that are going to want a "$51k" C7. This is going to make supply shrink and price increase!

To those of you who think you want to buy a C7 at MSRP from one of the Forum dealers keep this in mind. 1) It will cost you $1k to $2k to have it delivered to you in an enclosed trailer. 2) There is not a Chevy dealer in the world that will allow you to have your "MSRP" priced C7 "courtesy delivered" when they have C7's with markups of over $5k. So, unless you live close by the "MSRP" dealer, you aren't actually going to be paying "MSRP" for it!

Again, I have been through this with the C5 and C6. C7's at MSRP are just not going to happen. Those of you who boldly say, "Only a fool will pay over MSRP" are not going to have a 2014 C7 in your garage this year!

Sin, same thing happened to me! I walked when I saw the markups on the Ford GT's back in 2004. However, joke was on me as you cannot find a nice GT anywhere for under $200k nowadays! ARGH!

Sin, I forgot to add....the GT is my dream car. The way they have appreciated over the years keeps me in my Ferrari! A Ford GT someday...just not until they get back in the $150k range; if ever!

1) Museum Delivery - granted it is now a $995 option, but you get to tour the assembly plant and the museum and the related hoopla. Then a nice road trip home in my new C7. No enclosed trailer needed.
2) I believe you will be able to find dealers that will provide courtesy delivery. They get paid to do it. They can either get ZERO for a C7 bought elsewhere or get a couple hundred to provide minimal delivery.

If people pay over MSRP, that fools needs to be relieved of there
money. With the internet today, guys do not have to be
shafted by the dealers like in the past

There was a pretty nice one on Cars.com about a month ago for I think $130 with 37K miles on it in Texas. Tempting...:)

I have several friends who have them and love them. But, I think 200K for one is way overpriced. The speculators have stepped into the market as everyone thinks this is the one car that will go up in value.

Wasn't that one a Salvage also????
