In the real world, over 70+% get an auto on their Vette....just saying.

Had the OP known this, he probably wouldnt have needed to start a thread asking opinions and pro vs con.

I'm old school and believe that all sports cars should come standard as a manual..... I know those euros have the paddle tranny and all but I prefer stick any day...... However, as a DD, I would go with an auto with another brand sedan. I wouldn't waste the feel of the corvette with an auto

The OP just needs to answer to himself honestly one question.

When I was looking used, my 2 requirements were no Vert and auto, I got both. Living around traffic crazy NY I figured auto was a necessity. In hindsight though, I never used my car as a daily driver, I don't generally go into traffic heavy area's and most of my driving is long local highway trips or touring so the manual probably would have worked out fine. My next Vette will be some kind of Z car so manual it will be. If your daily driving or live in a metropolitan area you might want to think auto but otherwise the manual will work.....

Oh boy, the age old debate....
It's really driver preference and what / where the car will be driven.
If I had to sit in commuter traffic with it each day, I would get the auto. It it's a weekend car, I would get the manual. Just my opinion....whatever makes YOU happy.

:iagree:

My former boss summed it up perfectly many years ago...." driving a sports car with an automatic is like kissing your sister....sure its still a kiss....but there's no thrill in it" at least I hope not. Go for the stick.

I love my manual because I can just cruise around the city at 3500 RPMs... SCREAMING and ROARING at all the imports... they appreciate that and often stare :-)

Well, I sold my 75 today and now I can find my 2008 or newer but I cant decide on auto or manual. The paddle shift seems nice but sticks are fun. Any opionions to help me decide?

Daily driver in city = auto
Weekend for fun = manual

IMHO

:rofl:A guy driving a stick is way sexier to the woman, I'm damn near irrestable:rofl::rofl:

Im one of those guys that believe sports cars should only be stick. There are so many automatic Corvettes, its crazy.

It all comes down to what YOU like to do. :)

My 05 was an auto and my 2011 is a manual. I have to admit, I miss the convenience of the auto. If I had to do it over again, I would get another auto. JMO

My '06 was a manual, my '13 is auto and I love it! The stick was fun, but got old in some situations, and always is balky--at least was to me, unless you were getting on it. The paddle shifting is fun, and the S algorithm is really great if you just leave it there. Always had autos on my F-bodies, as traffic was a real concern back then. Liked the stick, but made the right decision for me.

stingraynick75 04-28-2013 01:45 PM

alright, thanks for your opinions. My 75 was an auto, so I think I will go manual, I love some of the comments, and torchreds avatar so Im telling myself this....buy a stick drive it for a few years, then look for a 2104 stingray then decide again:rock:
This forum is awesome

I hate the analogy that gets thrown around, it's such ********. There's so much more involved with "driving" a car then using a clutch. Steering, throttle and braking input are much more important to the driving aspect.

Go check out a local autocross, most of those guys can complete an entire run in 2nd gear... Go tell them they aren't driving their cars.

I drive the balls off of my car on a daily basis and I drive a 6 speed auto. I am in paddle shift mode from the time I turn it on to the time it gets turned off.

CMCvette 04-28-2013 02:24 PM

2012+ paddles are a decent compromise and provide some fun and control as well as leaving the auto option for heavy traffic if you drive it most days. that said, if its a weekend toy, I'd get the manual.

Johnathon59 04-28-2013 02:30 PM

I like to shift keeps me from falling asleep ! .:rofl::rofl:

saplumr 04-28-2013 02:40 PM

GM sells a bunch more auto's vs manual but I guess the reason is more daily drivers in traffic, others simply can't drive a standard or are too lazy. If you live at the drag strip the auto is more consistent. No matter the reason or excuse....I'll never understand buying a auto Corvette! (Unless a disability of course)
