smoke out the rear exhaust

Driving down the hwy and car lose power. White smoke out the rear. Thought car was on fire because I just filled up. Pulled over and tried to start more smoke. Waiting for tow. I have a 06z 12/05. Is that a symtom of a dropped valve. Car never had any problems. Just waxed it taking a cruz. Sucks! 45k miles. Was at the dealership at 42k for oil, diff, Changes. Warranty gone. Cant afford to pay 15+k on a LS7 engine. How to tell Z brothers

Assuming no hole in engine block, pull all the spark plugs. If one is all beat up on the end, you probably lost a valve in that cylinder.

Don't try to start it.

:iagree: Don't try and start it.

Next, or first if you want, drain the oil pan into an open container. If you get a bunch of coolant out of the pan, and a busted up spark plug, then it's game over -- the block is surely holed internally.

So sorry to hear of this. This is getting ridiculous!

LT5 John 05-05-2013 06:28 PM

Bummer, was the Z totally stock? Are you the original owner?

Since your warranty is gone find a local performance shop.

Hope the engine is not toast :ack:

Well brothers. I was happy until I pulled my last spark plug on the driver side. I started from the fire wall. I said the 1st one was harder to get to. The tip of the plug is off. Now Is it just a head job or a engine?

I did not hear a pop or nothing. I got over and the power went away. I looked in the rear view and looked like the space shuttle taking off. Pulled over and pressed start nothing but smoke. Just pressed it 1x. Smoke smells like burnt paper towel.

I will upload a pic of the plug once I find out how.

The head has to be pulled to see the extent of damage...

Oh man that looks real bad:
Drain the oil and see if you find coolant. Quickest way to know (still could have liner/block damage with no coolant in oil). The white smoke doesn't sound promising, however ...

If you have some mech skills, and the tools, not hard at all...There is a sticky on here showing complete head replacement......Also, a wealth of knowledge from members of this forum...
