Bought me a convertible today.
Well I finally found myself a nice convertible. I don't think I did too bad on the price either. It was at a Chevy dealership here fairly close to where I live, and is a local car and the guy traded it in on a new one.
It's an 89. Red with tan top and tan interior. Has right at 100k on the odometer. Not a single scratch anywhere on it. New tires. New top. Recent tune up. Very very nice interior. Runs and drives great. This is what I know so far that I'll need to fix...... The passenger headlight has the bushings worn out(runs and clicks for a few seconds) and I've already watched the video online on how to fix it and am ready to tackle it. The lock cylinder on the drivers door just turns when you stick the key in and turn it. Not sure what that is, but maybe just the rod came loose inside. Console lid doesn't latch. Even though it's a new top, not sure what's going on with it. With the top up and when you close the door with the window up, the top edge corner of the window is on the outside of the top, by about an inch either way. Anyone know why it's doing that or some ideas on how to fix it? I know there are a few small minor things wrong, and that's expected with something 24yo. But all in all, I think I got a good deal. |
Sounds like a good find. Welcome to the Forum!
Please be sure to post some pics of the new ride when you get a chance! |
Congrats on the new ride. You will love it. Please post some pictures.

Is the window off at the rear? When the window reaches the top of travel, does it tilt rearward as it gets to the top? If so, the plastic guide is probably broken. I just replaced mine, it was hitting the metal beyond the weatherstrip at the rear top. The part was $23 at Chevy dealer, but changing it was a little challenging. Post back if that is what your seeing and if so, I'll post a link I used on replacing the guide.

Congrats and welcome!
Post a pic of the window where it meets the top so we can get a better idea of what you're dealing with. |

If you drove one you would know the difference. I have owned both, and if you are in to driving with the top down or out, the vert is much nicer. |

That's why I have a FRC C5. I don't want the roof coming off. Seals, rips, tears, wind noise, road noise. Birds crapping on you. Screw that. But verts do look good and if you're into that, fine. |
I hate when birds crap on you, disgusting.

You talk about being practical and own a Harley? You know the OP purchased a vert because that is what he wanted, not what you wanted. Let him enjoy his car and his post. Besides who of us purchased a corvette or Harley because its a practical vehicle? |

C'mon now, no need to mud a presentation thread of a newly acquired car by a very happy owner with senseless bickering. Save it for one of the weekly threads that ask for opinions on whether to get a coupe or vert. The OP made up his mind on what he wanted to buy with his money, and that is all that counts.
To the OP; have you taken delivery already? You could probably convince the dealer to fix the window issues to make sure that there are no leaks at least. Headlight gears are easy and cheap to to, but aligning the windows can be tricky. |
To each his own. I happen to prefer Coupes. The statement was made verts are more fun. I called BS on that and nothing more. I'm not denigrating anyone's vette.

And this opinion of yours is based on owning both cars or even driving both? I'm not denigrating anyone's vette. |
No i'm not....and YES I have owned both. In both a C3 and a C4. You seem determined to escalate a conflict with me for some reason. Have at it as i'm well capable of handling it.
