Top Radiator Hose

Well after a run this weekend i noticed steam from my engine bay. Popped the bonnet and the top radiator hose had come off the radiator connection. Waited for it to cool, replaced coolant and put together and tightened the clip.

Went for another run and popped bonnet to check and noticed air bubbles comming from the connection and a slight drip/leak.

Question is, do we feel this is still just a loose connection and needs tightening further? Should there be some sealent in the connection?

Thanks

the hose is probably damaged internally. make sure that bubba hasn't damaged the radiator nipple in some past attempt to remove an old hose. some guys like to use razor knives to slit a hose. no sealants are used on the hoses.

When this has been covered in the past the problem has been an incorrect size I.D. on the hose. No amount of tightening or replacing the clamps would stop it. The hose should fit very snug onto the radiator neck. mike...

I have smeared red RTV on the pitted neck to
seal the hose.
no issues.

That will work. The trick is not to use too much. The extra sealant can get loose and clog a few radiator tubes.

Guess a new top hose would be an idea then see how it goes.

Out of interest where is this radiator nipple and what does it do?

Thanks all

I think he means the top outlet on the radiator.

Since you used the term "bonnet" you will have to define what you are calling a radiator nipple.

I think MDS3013 has the right diagnosis. Recently I bought a new upper hose for my '78 L82. Inner diameter on the engine end was too big so back to the store to exchange it for the right one. It should fit snug when putting on.
