Is it me or are base wheels better looking that Z51 wheels?
I've seen some pictures and the base wheels are growing on me.
What do you think? |

It is you! But personal taste is just that..
|
It's just you :D
I find the base wheels hideous and make the car look bad. |
I love the 51 wheels.

It's subjective... I really don't like the base wheels but that doesn't mean many others wouldn't find them beautiful. I find the design is too plain and, in turn, makes the car look less sporty.
|
Anyone good at photochopping ... How about a set of C6 / Z06 Comp Grey "Spider" wheels on the C7?
|
It's just you. The Z51 wheels are MUCH better looking. It's almost worth the $2800 for the Z51 just to get the Z51 wheels - everything else is like a bonus! :D

Wonder why they don't give those who don't want Z51 option the ability to choose Z51 wheels.
The Z51 wheels are different sizes that the base wheels. Give the aftermarket a little while and there will be reproduction Z51 look-alike wheels in base sizes. |

Probably because GM thinks the Z51 wheels look better and that is part of their strategy to get people to opt for the Z51. Not to mention the Z51 is a bargain.
. If that was the strategy -- it worked. About 98% came with Daytona seats. :) |
I agree with the OP. The base wheels are cleaner and fit with the design better. The "tuning fork" Z-51 wheels aren't bad, but they're pretty flat and look similar to a lot of other wheels out there.
|
Nope,.. Its just you...
The base wheels look crappy. Way to plain looking. |

So that makes three of us  I really like the clean simple look. Real easy to clean for a daily driver too. But the majority of corvette guys seem to like more interesting and complex wheels (like the ZR1 style) which admittedly give the car more pizzaz. To me the perfect wheel would be the base wheel in the bigger size. You're right about fitting the design better. This clean wheel design was used in most of the early C7 renderings we saw at the Bash. Also on the Stingray Concept from 2009. And you're right, many ordinary sedans are running around on wheels that look much like the Z51's. |

If you ever saw the Ferrari F430 standard seats, you would say they were ugly as hell. Many think it was done intentionally so that people would opt for the Daytona style at about $3600 more.

Pretty much every sports car from every make comes with skanky base wheels and you have to spend $$$ to get the nicer wheel....it's marketing 101

First pic: rather ugly standard cast aluminum wheels.
$8000 later: Voila'! Optional machine faced forged light weight aluminum 20's. Increased profit: extreme! :) |
I prefer the z51 wheels as they better suit the techno edge look of the new c7.
Just an opinion. |
I ve been trying to sell myself on the base wheels for over a week now in an attempt to avoid the Z51 package and magna-ride upgrades....it's just not working.

I like the Z51 wheels, but the non-Z51 looks OK in this picture. I ordered the Z51 option largely because of the wheels.
I really wish there was a machine-faced Z51 option. http://assets.nydailynews.com/polopo...elin-tires.jpg |

my first glance at both wheels, I thought of them as the "five-spoke" and "10-spoke" or "split-spoke" models. and yes, I like the five-spoke quite a bit. not so much the 10-spoke, but it's not ugly or bad looking.

Don't forget that the Z51 tires will wear rather quickly compared to the base tires.

Can anyone confirm this photo is of machine-finished base wheel? Jimmy |
I don't think it is, looks like the standard sterling silver painted wheel.

Jimmy http://forums.corvetteforum.com/memb...ted-142501.jpg[ Then what wheel is this?[/QUOTE] Same wheel, same finish. The wheel sitting on the chair looks like it was shot with an iPhone or something like that (not great quality), the other photo is professionally shot. You can tell the wheel on the chair is not machine finished because the barrel of the wheel is the same as the face, if it was the machine finished wheel, the face would look VERY different from the barrel. Huh??? They are both the same tire on the z51 package and base. They are just different sizes.
Can someone confirm? |

Z51 wheels look way better, the stockers would look okay in black not silver.

Agreed... GM said the Z51 PSS have more of a racing compound vs. standard PSS tires. Why they are both branded PSS is beyond my logic... talk about confusion when trying to replace them!!
Back to OP's topic...I like the black Z51 wheels! |
I'm thinking Z51. But the standard wheels will be easier to clean.

Speaking of the sales guide. Does anyone have a link to the newest sales guide? The one that includes pictures of the interiors. I have misplaced mine.
Thanks. I love both StingRay and z51 wheels. |

The super soft-sticky racing compound and really aggressive alignment is probably how they got a good chunk of the track performance improvements with the C7 Z51. Down side is tread life or possibly lack of it. Replacing them fairly often would not surprise me. Rear tires on Porsche 911s need replacing every 10K miles or so if you drive mildly sporty on the street. 5K-6K miles if you track on weekends.

I like the base wheels as well. I ordered the painted base rims on my 2002; and never second guessed the decision.
Later, I upgraded to the C6 factory base painted rims. The C7 Z51 rims are good as well :yesnod: |
