Driving in heavy rain with Runflats
Yesterday ended up a white knuckle day while driving my 2012 C6...Runflats might be great for no spare but is it only them that have a serious issue in heavy rain?...I traded my 2010 Camaro for this baby and she never had the issues like I had yesterday?>
Did find out that I was between 33 and 34 psi cold...lowered them to 30 as door car suggests...any comments?:lurk: |
How many miles on the tires? Can you measure tread depth? What exactly happened to make it a white knuckle day? What model corvette? The stock Gy tires, if thats what they are, aren't bad in the rain if driven correctly, but a car with that kind of power has the potential to break loose even on dry roads if driven aggressively.

No problems here. Don't forget you lost 800 pounds from the Camaro.
|
No problems in the rain, perhaps it might be white knuckle driving in the snow, but rain, should have no problems even with bald tires.

Heavy rain was a very scary experience when I first picked up my 2011 coupe (compared to my 2010 Camaro SS...). Hydroplaning all over the place. I very nearly threw away the brand new GY tires. I'm glad I didn't, because the root cause was the factory (mis)alignment. The car would track straight, but the toe was substantially out of spec. As soon as one tire lost grip going over a puddle, the other one would pull the car in a different direction. After a proper alignment, I find that the car remains rock solid in inclement weather.

Lots of heavy rain in Florida, no problems with my 2007 coupe since I got rid of the GY's and switched to PS2 run flats. The GY's had about 15,000 miles on them and were terrible when it was wet.

even the C7s are coming out with the michelin run flats now instead of the GYs |
When I had the OE Goodyear Supercar run flat tires on my Z06(wider tires than on your C6), they were scary in the rain, even at low speed. I now have the Bridgestone RE050A run flats and have driven them at 80 MPH in a pretty heavy rain, with mid '40's temp. No sign of hydroplaning.
I would say that mostC6 owners go with another tire when they need to replace the OE Goodyear's. On my C5, I went with the Michelin A/S run flats and they drove great at 75MPH in an extremely heavy rain storm with no hydroplaning. |
Get different tires is the solution or do not drive in downpours:rock:

No problems here either. 2013 base coupe.
|
I've had a few pucker moments in my GS in downpours.
|
:iagree:
|
once you change the GY to Firestones you won't have any issues, even when the tread wears down
|
Yes my 2012 GS likes to remind you to pay attention in deep standing water. just rain is OK but them puddles well ya ,wake up.
|
I have Invos on the GS. Way, way better than CrapYears in the rain. :yesnod: But, still no "picnic", for sure.

I had 52K on my 03 and no issues in rain. I got 25K out of the orginal GY and then switched to Michelins and it was better in the rain. The 2013 has not had the opportunity to be in real heavy rain just in showers, but it handles just fine.

I have driven in a downpour in my vette at freeway speeds for over a 100 miles driving back from Vegas with Michelin AS ZP run flat tires with nearly 25k miles on them and they were rock solid and had no hydroplaning problem of any kind.
|
MY GS is too new, only 700 miles & have yet to drive in heavy rain. MY old C5 had Goodyear eagle GS D3 tires & they were amazing in downpours, no issues at all.
|
Why are you driving a Corvette in the rain? lol I didn't think they had windshield wipers... It was nasty around here... Glad you got home safe.
