Which ATI Harmonic Balancer is right for 2005 C6 LS2?

Hi Everyone!
Haven't posted here, for a few years.
Our 2005 C6 LS2 6-speed man. trans. has been relatively well-behaved, until now.
We need to order a Harmonic Balancer, and were told that ATI is the way to go.
We noticed that ATI has two offerings:
Part No. ATI-917246
and ATI-917266.
What is the difference between these two?
Also, the importance of the ARP Bolt?
which one to order?
Anyone done this?
Thanks so much Everyone!

OP: Check these out - http://store.katechengines.com/ati-s...ts-v-p230.aspx & http://store.katechengines.com/bille...sioner-p2.aspx & http://www.atiracing.com/products/da...s/damchevy.htm
& http://store.katechengines.com/dampers-c41.aspx

Also if you plan on doing a cam install, now would be a good time to do it so that you can save on labor cost.

Good luck with your repairs.

Hi There!
Thanks for the Info., passed it on to my Partner, and he's ordering the "917266" through Summit racing.
My other question is about the ARP BOLT? Something about a special "diamond encrusted" bolt?
Do you know anything about this?
Should I post it as a new thread?
We're a little in the dark about this.
Thanks!

I called ATI, 917266 has an aluminium hub and they did not recommend it for a street car. Said 917246 was the way to go. That's from their tech dept.

I have read in MANY threads that it is a quality item. I do not remember which bolt the shop used when I had them change my OEM unit for an ATI unit. One thing that I can say is a new bolt would be ideal for two reasons: (1). It is a cheap item to replace during the install of the new unit "piece of mind". (2). This item is going to be torqued down to a specific spec setting, so I would use a "new bolt".
From what I have read, is that the OEM bolt can not be reused, were the APR bolt can. You can reuse the ARP bolt, but be sure to torque it to the ARP recommended torque, not the torque-to-yield value. Of coarse I would talk with the shop doing the work.

Check out this thread, it is for a C5, but still a good read - http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c5-t...em-or-arp.html & http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c6-t...-arp-bolt.html

Good Luck!

So, now we're REALLY confused about the two ATI Balancers!
Summit said to go with the aluminum one, and you say
that ATI says to go with the steel one?
There's a weight difference there of almost 4 lbs. as well.
I wonder why ATI would say that?
My partner will call ATI, but in the meantime, anybody have any opinions either way?

Yeah it can be a little confusing as you also have to make sure that you choose the one that has the air conditioning pulley (sort of attaches to the back of the main balancer) with it as well (if you still have AC that is). :)

Both the 917266 & 917246 have the A/C pulley.
The only difference that I could read, is the metal composition, in that one is 100% steel, and the other is mixed alum./steel, with a weight difference.
That's why we're confused on the two opinions.
I guess HE will have to ask ATI, and re-question Summit, about their advice?
Do you know anything about which ARP bolt system to go with?
Anything about a "diamond-encrusted" bolt system?
Thanks!

the ARP bolt is the way to go for ease of installation and the factory diamond embedded washer will not fit the ATI balancer.your original equipment 05 factory balancer was not machined to use the dew washer either.go with ATI'S recomendation on balancer choice
