Help! Need a OEM battery
 

Took our car in for routine service, and the dealer comes back saying the car wouldnt start and the battery is dead. This is a complete shocker because dropping off the vehicle, it had zero problem's turning over. The dealer says the oem battery shows a 6 year warranty sticker and is still covered, but they refuse to help me because I can't provide a receipt.

This. And what the OP is asking for is commonly called fraud.

It's the principal more than anything. These batteries are expensive. If the battery is within its warranty period, then why should I have to pay for another one?

I wouldn't consider $80-$100 very expensive for a battery. Also, if it's the original OEM battery how would you have a receipt for it in the first place?

I took my Duralast Gold to AutoZone and had it replaced without a receipt... twice. Hard to believe a GM dealer won't replace an OEM battery without the receipt...

I may not have a receipt, but how come when I drop off my car (with no battery issues whatsoever) magically the dealer says they cant even get the door open because its so dead? Maybe I'm wrong, but why do get the feeling the dealer may have left the lights on or done something to where I now need to buy a $160 battery all the sudden?

You've got me! It seems ironic in my opinion. My vote is they felt that by omitting a tracking system it would generate more battery sales. How convenient?

Much agreed! I feel this a scam. The original supplied batteries are the same batteries that are sold as replacements with a 6 year warranty. However because its the original battery they chop the warranty down to the cars 3 year 36k mile warranty.

I believe the computer turns off anything after 20 minutes. It would be a long stretch to say that ran down the battery, unless it was already on its last leg.

He is just following the current government policy of everything is free.

I'm lost but that is nothing new, OEM battery, good for 6 years, your car is a 2008, why would you have a receipt? Excuse me if I'm missing something...

They won't and any other Delco dealer won't. Had that happen on my 03Z. I had replaced the original battery with a Delco unit that I purchased from an auto parts store that had the 6 year warranty. Three years later the battery shorted out stranding me a long walk from home so I had the car towed to the dealer. They asked for the receipt and I had no idea where it was so I paid full price. Everything including the tow came to $350. All because I didn't put the receipt in the Owner's Manual Cover. The warranty only goes to the original purchaser and you need the receipt to show that.

But if its the original battery that came with the car from the factory how would the OP have a receipt for it?

Usually the battery is only replaced No Charge during a limited time, perhaps two to three years. After that, it is prorated. With a five year old battery in your vehicle, you'd likely only get a small credit towards the purchase of a replacement, even with a receipt. If you are provided a replacement No Charge, you did well. I just replaced my Original Equipment Delco in my 2008 C6 and immediately after installing, put the receipt in the glove box.

The original OEM batteries in all GM vehicles never have the warranty statement on the battery, just for these situations, because the battery is covered under the vehicle warranty for 3 years. Any dealer that replaces a battery under the vehicle warranty is also supposed to remove the warranty statement from the replacement, as these are also only covered under the remainder of the vehicle warranty. The only time you get the extended 6 year warranty is if you pay for the battery. So if the OP's battery had a warranty statement on it, then it was replaced at some point, and is not the original battery.

So let me understand what is needed...

the OP wants someone to provide a receipt that he can present to the dealer, and commit fraud for what; $100?? :eek: Doesn't sound like a really good plan. Most good fraudsters don't post their deeds on a public forum!!!
