Not the Usual 'Barn Find'

Going with a friend next week to look at a Corvette Barn Find. Now, while most barn find pics show mostly intact Vettes with a heavy coating of dirt and the typical rodent nests, this one is a bit different.
The story behind this Vette is that it sat in this barn for a lot of years but instead of being a matching number or high option vehicle, it's a smallblock 66 roadster sitting 'near a 65 frame with the original engine long gone. Oh yeah, that barn I mentioned...it collapsed on top of the Vette:ack:

If there is of anything of value it might be worth the effort to pick it apart...:ack:

I find the photo fascinating

Best of luck to you.......hope there is something worth salvaging in there.

I am sure there a few parts worth parting out and saving. but you would have to get it real cheap like under 5K cheap. does it come with a clear tittle?

at first I thought there may be some knock off rims there at the front but they look too wide and the centers dont look correct...I zoomed it in on my mac and it's like looking at where's waldo.

That appears to be a non stock tranny on end in front of the rims.

The body appears to be broken in half at the firewall due to the weird angle between the winshield, door and front clip.

I see what appears to be one side of a set of Hooker headers poking out somewhere in the middle/back of the pic.

In a way pictures like this are fun and interesting.

What else are you seeing?

My friend who owns a body shop heard about this car a number of years ago and it was a project even then...long before the barn came crashing down. The story is the owner has finally decided he's never going to get around to working on it and asked the body shop friend to look it over and make an offer. Other than the few spotty details I already mentioned, we don't know much more about it. Check out the 'ventilated' hood (upside down).

The best looking part...so far...looks to be the hardtop.

also I dont think that is a 65 frame under it because I don't think 65 had that body mount on the center section of the frame rail....

Vet65te 06-27-2013 03:38 PM

Roadsters do have a couple extra body mounts, compared to Coupes. As to the vintage of the body or the frame, we should be able to verify on Monday when we finally get to see it up close. I am only going along as an extra pair of 'eyes' but don't intend on taking a chain saw with me so until this mess is totally untangled, we might not find out too much more. Sad way to see a midyear wind up, huh?

Think there might be some snakes hiding in that mess? :D

steveale 06-27-2013 04:38 PM

Let me know if you get it and it has any parts dated mid may of '65...I need a few:D

I would have to say.......... this is a for real barn car. Might be alot of resale parts or a builder depending on the ambition level. I am sure the owner will be happy to get the mess cleaned up and a few bucks for the contents.

Vet65te 06-27-2013 05:52 PM

When my buddy stopped by to look at it and the owner asked what he thought he could get for it, my friend casually said $3K but that it would really depend on what is actually salvageable. Get this...the owner said he had been hoping for something more like $14K. Aye Carumba, he's been watching way too much Barrett-Jackson, huh?

If it has a clear tittle you can do a lot with that

$3 grand is a generous offer for a pile of junk. :ack:

Vet65te 06-27-2013 06:32 PM

That $3K estimate, not really an offer, was based on not being able to get much closer to the car than the pics show. Just from the pics alone I only saw the hardtop and maybe some front end components and guess that the rear suspension might be saleable but other than being a parts car, I don't see this one rising from the ashes any time soon. The one part of the story that sounds a little 'off' to me is the part about some one having swapped out the frame. Sure that happens, but it's rare for a car around here in Northern California. Maybe this car started life in another state where the roads were salted, who knows. When I do get to see this wreck up close, I'll be taking a lot of closeup pics and we'll see if they can fill in the blanks as to what value this heap has.

I think he is tuned in to the parts for sale in the C-1&2 forum. Some of the prices are simply out of this world.
There has to be at least 12k in parts. Title, tags, and body would bring that alone. It's not like fiberglass can't be repaired.
