Monday's Poll: Do you like the spoiler on the Z51

Not to discuss the merits of the entire package here, but do you like the spoiler? I am a aware that it serves a function in collaboration with the adjusted front air dam, but it dramatically changes the appearance of the car. The base look has a flowing line to the end. The Z-51 spoiler is aggressive. Which do you prefer? Would you order the Z-51 without the spoiler if you had the opportunity?

Cliff358 08-05-2013 09:59 AM

I definitely prefer it with the Z-51 spoiler. If it were an option all by itself I would still order it. :yesnod:

The car looks strange and incomplete to me without the spoiler. It looks cleaner, but less balanced with the rest of the design.

Matt26 08-05-2013 10:06 AM

Just from the pictures I have seen of the base car, it does look a bit strange without the spoiler.

I will reserve final judgement for when I see a base in person.

I prefer the Z51 spoiler vs base spoiler but I will keep it a bit tamer by having it body color and not black

I also have gone back and forth on this. I originally ordered the Carbon Flash, but then changed to body color. I thought with the dark paint there would be too many contrasting colors. Ordered CRMT.

The spoiler should have been integrated into the bodywork.

Looks are subjective. There is no right or wrong answer. Whatever looks best to you.

I'm going for the aggressive look - Laguna blue, black wheels, carbon flash spoiler and mirrors, visible carbon fiber roof.

All of the vents and the lower rear fascia are all Carbon Flash Metallic already.

Odd, I have the long rear spoiler on my C-6, but I think the C-7 coupe looks better with the standard "spolierette."

The normal one looks like someone glued a plastic school ruler on the back.

It looks like something is missing without it.

This.

I saw a base car in person and it was underwhelming. I have yet to see a Z51 in person, but in pictures, it looks much better than the base I saw. However, I'm curious as to how perfectly aligned the stick-on rear spoiler will be.

I agree completely with this. I feel the design would've worked better if this were true, like the old early 70's models.

However, this not being the case, I'm not sure I really care for the 'add on' look of the spoiler as it is. Especially with the 'carbon flash' option as opposed to body color. But this is just my subjective opinion. But, if it serve good function at 190mph on the backstretch of your favorite roadcourse, then by all means put it on there.

Durnberg 08-05-2013 11:47 AM

With regard to the spoiler, I really disliked the base car when I first saw it. However, when I look now, it doesn't look bad, in fact I like the look. That said, I prefer the spoiler. Loved the new Corvette from the moment I saw it. I have been dreaming of my retirement car for over two years. Researching, pricing, dreaming, comparing dreaming some more. The C7 spoiled everything as the moment I saw it, I knew there was no other car I wanted. Goodbye Porsche 911, goodbye used Ferrari, goodbye all other cars. Even the spoiler less base looks great to me. With or without rear spoiler it is just a beautiful car and the only thing that would improve it, is to have my Z51, CRT, Kalahari wrapped around me as I drive.

People who order the Z51 are ordering the best performance available. Deleting the spoiler would adversely reduce the rear downforce and adversely impact the handling. THAT WOULD BE DUMB. If you're willing to trade performance for style, consider choosing something else.
