9K Racing C5.6 CeliVette Frankenstein Build

What's up corvetteforum users!

I am Joey over at 9K Racing. I am 23 years old. This will be my own personal car's build thread.

Add us on Instagram @ 9KRACING to view up to date info on this build.

Hopefully it looks better than what I can imagine.

Here is my want to buy thread:
http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c5-p...n-bro-cal.html

The platform is a non z06 c5 frc vette. I purchased it from craigslist for a steal and thought it would be an excellent platform to build from. Since I work on highly modified cars every day. I just can't do the same route as everyone else goes so I am just going to wing it.

My focus is on style and functionality.

I wanted my vision to be expressed through my build and hopefully you can enjoy reading through it.

My first priority is to do the interior and exterior first. On the side I will be building a LS6 ITB motor to change out with the ls1 once it blows.

Budget for this build - $20k including cost of the car minus my labor

Here is what my car looked like when I bought it:
http://s21.postimg.org/923jdwhev/c5_side.jpg

The paint was a 7/10, interior had a z06 conversion done to it, and the motor was in decent shape. Compression tested and it passed with flying colors.

This was my original render of what I want the car to look like. It definitely changed within weeks of gathering new info and talking to people about their factory five kit cars.

So this is my old vision, but my final product will have a few tweeks.

Within a few days it was already on jack stands in the corner of the shop away from any cars or movement.

Hidden away like a ugly stepchild from view.

Totally stripped down for parts. We sold off what we could from it and kept what we needed.

http://s16.postimg.org/trnzgzkk5/image.jpg

I tried the c5r style headlights and hated the frog look so I ditched them. I also wrapped some of the car to see how the car would look if it was painted matte grey metallic.

As of right now the car has no interior and the exterior is stripped from it. Only thing on it are the trunk and hood. All fenders have been removed for modifications.

I ended up getting a supervette c6 zr1 widebody bodykit with a apr diffuser. First day it was here. It got choppped up into pieces!

I also purchased the 2F Performance c5.6 front bumper and extreme dimensions c5.6 rear bumper.

Reformed the stock front fender vent to about a 5 inch width and started the flaring process. We use a extremely over priced material that adheres fiberglass to polyurethane. Its pricey, but good materials cost money. Evercoat Polyflex

90% done.

http://s17.postimg.org/ag2e2rn5b/image.jpg

Now to start on the rear fender flares. We cut up the supervette rear over fenders and used the flare and the brake duct area to be molded onto the stock fender. Insides were cut to provide maximum clearance for a giant meaty tire.

90% Done for the rear section

Started the brake ducting process. Will smooth out and make it fit flush once we are finished.
I am also going to extend the side piece so it fits flush with the quarter panel or add a side skirt. Option is still up in the air.

Formed the front and rear fenders to match the flare in the new fenders. About 90% at this point. Just needs a final touch up for sanding and prep before paint.

One of the more rarest Japanese seat on the market inside of an American car? Say whaaat. A buddy of mine gave me a set of free sparco seat brackets for the build so this could be an option. I might want something more comfortable and luxurious. Either this, s2k seats, or c6 seats.

Since my quarter panel was completely shaved and cleaned up. I decided to put it into my fixed roof. 2

I used a 4" circular saw and cut apart my roof. Then just drilled and installed this for right now. Fab work for actual fuel use will be coming soon. The tank is right under this location so all I have to do is cut 2 holes into my chassis, clean it up, plumb it, and secure everything.

The biggest issue with this is fumes and safety precautions in the cabin so I will be brainstorming ways to make it absolutely odorless.

After talking with some of the guys over at ffcars.com, I came to a conclusion to do a celica headlight front end. I think its a clean overall updated look to the c5 and gives it a crazy unknown appearance to it. I am also deleting the body line on top of the oem c5 hood to make it completely smooth with a slight dip.

Initial position.
http://s24.postimg.org/ak29nwmn9/image.jpg

Cut the fender tab and relocated it closer to the fender line.
http://s17.postimg.org/oeyl8bizz/image.jpg

I can definitely pull this off, but I will have to create some new body lines on the hood and front bumper to have it match precisely.

Laid down carbon fiber to add more structural integrity over regular fiberglass. Should help withstand against the higher demands of driving at top speeds.

Overall shot of what the car looks like. I am currently measuring out wheel and tire sizing. My ideal fit would be a 18x12 in the front with a stretched 305 and a 18x13.5 in the back with a 325 stretch. No tubs since its a complete waste of cash when you have widebody and lower offsets.

I put grandsport z06 wheels in the front and they are SUNK. Will probably be ordering a custom set of Forgestar F14's since we are a direct dealer with them and they make the best wheels for the price.

Still debating on my sizing. 18s or 19s'

18s for functionality or 19's for bad ass factor

Nice rendering... just wondering though... what does Factory Five have to do with what you are doing? Are you trying to make it look like the GTM?

boostedfury 10-03-2013 05:24 PM

Sounds excited I interested keep up te updates and pics!

GTJim 10-03-2013 05:30 PM

Don't like the picnic table on the rear. Other than that it looks cool.

9KJoey 10-03-2013 06:01 PM

As of right now I am not sure what wing to go with. Here are my style options. Obviously to be retrofitted to fit my car.

I will think of wings last once the car is complete and I can have more of an idea what style will be suitable.

That is going to be one mean looking Vette when finished. Keep us informed of the build.

Outlawtorn 10-03-2013 07:33 PM

I enjoyed seeing your progress photos to date:rock:

9KJoey 10-03-2013 07:35 PM

Pulled out the interior and sent it to Meister Vinyl Works in Covina for a new updated look. I also shaved the center console to accept a double din since single dins are lame as ****.

http://s14.postimg.org/sypo09jqp/image.jpg

Cut the old door panel for a Porsche cf style track panel with a strap handle.

http://s2.postimg.org/xbpg0kec9/image.jpg

Picked up a clean set of c6 seats for a c5 to c6 seat conversion but hated the fact they weighed so much and had too many mechanisms inside of it so I ditched them.

http://s21.postimg.org/xocfer8dj/image.jpg

And went with honda s2000 black leather seats. I will just cut and redo the bottom seat brackets.

http://img156.imageshack.us/img156/9551/dsc00510ob.jpg

As of right now I am using a different parts from 9 different cars. A true frankenstein.

9KJoey 10-03-2013 08:20 PM

Cut up a 240sx roof wing I had laying around in the shop and just started measuring out what I would have to do to get it to work. This is still up in the air. I want the body to flow perfectly and this wing could make it or break it. Could turn it from classy sportscar to nasty ricer. What do you guys think?

http://s13.postimg.org/uj8bkzkmf/image.jpg

Picked up a pair of Nissan president rear trunk lights and will be mounting them as my license plate lights into the c5.6 bumper. Led equipped.

95wht6spd 10-03-2013 08:30 PM

Leave off the wing unless racing, and put some big tires on the rear. I like the flares, are you leaving two brake ducts?

9KJoey 10-03-2013 08:32 PM

Leaving two brake ducts. Overkill I know, but **** it. Looks good.

Our team races fontana or willow almost every 2 weeks.

If I were to make a gt wing I would make it bumper attached with a fabbed up bash bar that bolts to the wing.

This is the stance and functionality I am aiming for, Loma c6 inspiration.

Same kit we chopped up as well.

oldC5 10-03-2013 09:24 PM

Looks cool . Any chance, I can come by the shop and check it out in person. I live near by in Chino Hills . Thanks

9KJoey 10-03-2013 09:28 PM

We don't really allow unknown people to come into the back of our shop.

I can show it to you once its off jack stands and we can bring it outside

93civEJ1 10-03-2013 09:28 PM

im not sure what in the world I am reading.

Very ambitious! I like seeing the different ideas and how you accept one but not the other.
In for the build!
