Wrong color spoiler factory mistake

2 Attachment(s)
I received my corvette 10-14 and I noticed that the spoiler ,I ordered the carbon fiber mirrors and spoiler as listed on my order sheet , is same red color as the car . Many people said looks better not being black in color. I have told to be sure to get documentation that this makes it unique . This is the best Corvette I have ever had, I have had three new Corvettes. My question, should I have them change to the black color ?

C7_Z06 10-20-2013 08:27 AM

Hmmm. Right! And wrong for GM obviously. What will GM or dealer do? Maybe at a minimum, GM reimburses you back $100 for an incorrect build.... or at least 50 bucks back for a halfazz job! :D

Sin City 10-20-2013 08:29 AM

You should be happy with what you buy.

IMO, l like the car better this way and I'm ordering it this way. But, my opinion means nothing.

Only your opinion matters.

DocHolliday 10-20-2013 08:29 AM

Maybe they'll just send you the carbon flash pieces for dealer installation? If you decide you don't want them I'm sure you could find a buyer on here....Like me who now wishes I would have ordered them! :D

gthal 10-20-2013 08:36 AM

If you like it, leave it. If not, change it out.

I would have is black to match the mirrors but that's just my opinion.

:iagree: You order a steak you shouldn't get chicken, make it right unless you are diggin' the red.

Paulchristian 10-20-2013 08:47 AM

Unless you plan on keeping the car 50 years, it won't matter...in fact, even if you do, it is highly unlikely this factory mix-up will make your car more valuable. I think those days are gone...

My opinion is to get your black spoiler. Had the car arrived with body color mirrors and a black spoiler, I would have left it along and asked for a partial refund. I like the black spoiler but never liked miss-matched color mirrors. Just my opinion.

DALE#3 10-20-2013 08:49 AM

Spoiler should always match to blend in.(if that's what you like?)Off set colors make that particular part POP.Calipers, mirrors, chrome rims.Your baby, your call.

direct007 10-20-2013 08:53 AM

I like it this way. Now if one mirror was red and one was black, then I would have an issue. lol Plus, now you have bragging rights as yours is the only one made by the factory with this unique "option package"

sly4458 10-20-2013 09:00 AM

I like it this way also. Looks Bad A!

Harry2 10-20-2013 09:05 AM

I like it the way it is, your Vette will be unique!
Still, your call, and if you decide to leave it as is, get a refund.
I am amazed that someone at BG did not catch this mismatch!

rcooper 10-20-2013 09:14 AM

I like the car as is, most likely to be the only one around like that, your own personalized Corvette!

Glen e 10-20-2013 09:16 AM

Even if you keep it, you gotta tell the UAW they screwed up again....PM Chevy customer service here.....

craig04c5 10-20-2013 09:16 AM

I am in agreement with many others. I like it this way. Black looks aftermarket.

I wonder if it can be ordered this way? I would do so if available.

StingRaycer 10-20-2013 09:29 AM

I like the black better - I would get the spoiler changed to match the mirrors
The black on the spoiler adds symmetry to the black lower valence/splitter
I like it - I have the CR with the carbon flash spoiler/mirrors and get a lot of
compliments on the carbon flash choice. It definitely does not look aftermarket
with the black trim in other areas of the car. Just my opinion

Can you post a pic of you CR with the spoiler?

JW Motorsports 10-20-2013 09:36 AM

The red spolier looks better IMO. I do like the top and mirrors.

BIg Wash AZ 10-20-2013 09:36 AM

homogenous works for me

The spoiler not matching the build sheet is just a UAW screw up deal. Nothing more. Fifty years from now that will still be the deal. Any dealer will make the swap as a warranty item. I'd change it so everything matches. IMHO

Corvette SSX 10-20-2013 09:48 AM

It looks odd to me. The black mirrors really stand out. I'd either get the black spoiler or red mirrors.

VIN666 10-20-2013 09:52 AM

Keep it. Best of both words an a combo you can't buy (intentionally).

58-66NB 10-20-2013 09:52 AM

Hi, I would ask for the black spoiler and store it in your garage. When/if you sell the car down the road the new buyer will have a choice which spoiler to put on. The red looks nice but the new buyer may prefer it to be the correct color black.

rexracerx9 10-20-2013 09:55 AM

GM...how about some accountability???? Something is very wrong at Bowling Green. You have to laugh a little after seeing and hearing all the marketing about how the C7 is all about "PRECISION" in the latest marketing campaign.

I can't understand how this one got by the blind quality control people at Bowling Green? I can't help but to wonder what else the guys in the final quality control / inspection booth at the end of the production line missed? How can anyone trust them to find a small paint blemish if they did not notice the mismatched black mirrors and red rear spoiler on this car? Heads need to roll if someone is not doing their job and quality control need to go up in Bowling Green asap if they do not want to damage the brand's image with potential new customers.

OP, maybe leave it as-is for now. It looks OK and you will have a unique story to tell. Or maybe ask them to give you the black rear spoiler and red mirrors so you have both in the future. Just document what ever you do. GM will probably see this tread and notice some people would order this combo and end up charging for the option in the future? Haha. Great looking color, enjoy the car!

The Car would look better with the Black spoiler. :yesnod: Also, I agree with the above. GM QC=:ack:. Glad I am waiting for the third MY to buy. :yesnod: A better Car. And, hopefully GM will gets it's act together. Well, at least, a little more together.

Snorman 10-20-2013 10:53 AM

OP said the carbon flash mirrors and spoiler were listed on his "order sheet", but are they listed on the window sticker and in the "Special Build" box on the build sheet (will show as "TTV")?
There was another member, and I can't find the thread, who complained that GM didn't put an option he ordered on his car. Turns out the dealer didn't actually order it.

Yes Snorman it does shows the TTV on the MSRP $100 and my order sheet as well

In that case, and if you want them, I would ask that the dealer remedy it.
My only reservation would be what needs to be removed to install the spoiler.

RapidC84B 10-20-2013 11:12 AM

Another GM screw up... I love this car, but it's clear they're not used to offering this level of customization. Seems to be a fair amount of cars coming in with issues. Cars missing door sills, missing interior options, wrong transmissions, wrong wheels, stuff like the OP here.

MikeMaj82 10-20-2013 11:20 AM

If I got a black spoiler I'd have to change the wheels to black also. But that's just me.

MikeyTX 10-20-2013 11:20 AM

My take, keep it the way it is. I don't think I'd want the dealer unbolting anything that doesn't need to be unbolted. Plus, there is the issue of the two sided body tape that is also used. By now that stuff has had time to bond and set up. You have no idea the mess that adhesive creates when trying to remove it. Not worth risking screwing up the paint imho.

C7_Z06 10-20-2013 11:22 AM

BG production line screwed up first... and then QC missed it. That's a double-whammy, i.e. failure to follow SOP and failure of a quality check (or double verification) process. BG Mgt. should address this internally so that a repeat won't happen. A CAPA is needed. That's the bigger picture in this unanticipated issue.

foreverfuelie 10-20-2013 11:37 AM

You asked for opinions. IMO, black mirrors and spoilers look like you went to the local auto supply store and bought them as ad ons. Those in the know, know better, but again I think it looks cheap. You always find the "up graded" models of less expensive cars have mirrors (and spoilers if they have them) that are painted body color, not so for the "strippies". I know that I'm in the minority but, my C7 will get the black vents and diffuser painted body color and there will not be black wheels on mine. Again, they look, especially from a distance, like proper wheels were not affordable, and they do not compliment the beautiful car. Just my opinion.

vetehead 10-20-2013 12:19 PM

I would a minimum get them to order the right spoiler and at least hand it to you....That is the least they could do for your inconvenience!..As far as the look I don't know ??If you had the black wheels I would say definitely have them out it on...but with the silver or chrome wheels( can't tell in pic)...it could go either way....btw the car is awesome looking!..

Another factory blunder...I am real disappointed in all these early reported screw ups after the big PR campaign to release these cars perfect!:(

theblackvette 10-20-2013 12:23 PM

I don't like it. Get what you ordered.

zland 10-20-2013 12:40 PM

I wish the spoiler was built into the car instead of a bolt on. OK, diagree, but it is a CF forum and my take is all of the spoliers look added on. Not saying it is bad, just saying it could look better if built in.

0-60B4U 10-20-2013 12:42 PM

Since it's a unique build error, I'd keep it! Either way, SWEET ride!:D

Goaty 10-20-2013 01:06 PM

I'd have the dealer change it. The mirrors and spoiler should match. This would drive me crazy but I am OCD. I wouldn't have taken delivery until this was fixed to my satisfaction.

Stingray23 10-20-2013 01:12 PM

Stuff like this should never happen. How do you forget to put the correct spoiler? Its not exactly a small item.

Thunder22 10-20-2013 01:23 PM

I would change the mirrors to red and not mess with the spoiler, the potential for screwing up the spoiler far exceeds changing the mirror casing, and the car has enough black/red contrast already, doesn't need more.

just my .02

RapidC84B 10-20-2013 02:49 PM

The spoiler is simple guys. Two bolts and some double sided tape. Not rocket science to pull it off, use a heat gun and some goo-gone and then re-apply new spoiler. There are two studs in it so alignment isn't an issue.

RapidC84B 10-20-2013 03:01 PM

Crap! That really messes up my plans to buy a Z51 and take the spoiler off :( Now I really hope GM comes out with a spoiler delete option for the Z51.

Michael A 10-20-2013 03:13 PM

They must be drunk at the plant.

At least if you go to black, you won't have to worry about color matching the paint.

Michael

Daekwan06 10-20-2013 03:19 PM

Agreed.. I like the car as-is. If anything I would want the red mirrors too.

The black spoiler & mirrors just dont do it for me. They are factory parts that are simply a different color. I think the only way the black additions would look good is if they were some type of aftermarket design. Where you wanted it stand out.

dmaxx3500 10-20-2013 05:48 PM

you better document this ,so when it gets restored in 50-60 years you can prove it was built that way, because NCRS judges will deduct points for not being right

Saw my first TR C7 at Hendricks in Cary, NC yesterday. It had the "carbon flash" spoilers and mirrors, Z51, MAG, Black-2lt, black wheels with red calipers. Car looked great but, I just couldn't get into the black metalic painted mirrors and spoiler. Just as I suspected, they look majorly cheap (IMHO) and added on. The wheels looked better than I had expected but needed black lug nuts. But over all, WOW!

Red Lightening 10-22-2013 06:50 PM

I would leave it but get a refund on the screwed up option.

binster 10-22-2013 08:14 PM

Meanwhile in another universe, there is a guy asking folks if the black spoiler looks ok with his red mirrors.

Greg00Coupe 10-22-2013 08:22 PM

Have them order the black, keep both. Heck you can switch them out every so ofter if ya want. Dealer has no use for a used red spoiler. Why decide get both.
