I usually try to follow the same rule. However, when the General offers 0% financing or basically a free loan to help them move inventory, take it. Set up on automatic payment through your bank and invest the money into something that provides a return as anything is better than nothing. If you're smart, or lucky, or both, your return could match the depreciation of the toy.

I've not always paid cash for my toys, but I have for the last 20 years or so. Even for other new cars and trucks I've purchased in the last 20 years, with the exception of my 05 Chevy truck. I ended up getting $9000 off sticker by letting my dealer get financing for me. Paid it off a year later. After having this Vette for the last two years, I should have financed and bought one earlier, but waited till I had enough cash to buy what I wanted. I don't blame anyone for financing what they want when young. I've spent a lot of money doing things I wanted, and not one bit sorry. I'm an old man now and can't do what I want anymore, but I can look back and say man I'm glad I did that when I could, it was worth it. If I would have driven a C5 when they came out, I'd have financed one too!!

Im still paying off my loan back from 1999. It was a 5 year loan at 22%APR for a 2000 vette. But then i kept getting offers to re-finance for another 5 years. so i took the promotions. They said i just need to pay minimum of 100.00 a month!

I just dont understand why the balance is still near 40K owed. But im happy my credit is good!

Financing depreciating items like cars is just plain stupid. Always pay cash or don't buy it.

To call those who do not have the means to pay cash for a used car "just plain stupid" is kinda harsh in my opinion.

An economist i am not, but if i had the cash today i'd much rather have a 2014 vette than waiting for the buck to be devalued .At my age and still feeling like tearin it up once in a while ,my old 01 Zo6 still gets it....if you know what i mean.
