He got an ear full when we reached our destination, that's for sure!!!

My son is also LE and while the official line is that there are no quotas, if one fails to write enough tickets, you get low marks for not meeting “performance standards”. So, there is a flurry of ticket writing at the end of the month. Total BS.

LE should never be uniformed tax collectors, there are far better things to do than write chicken---- 70 in a 60 zone tickets.

Having said that, while the C7 can certainly run comfortably at 150, I don’t think it’s very smart on public roads. You cannot control what will happen, someone pulling out in front of you, a deer crossing. Don

Be careful out there.

I was at NAS Oceana and NAVSTA Norfolk on shipboard duty 75-82, sad to see VA Beach turn to such draconian penalties for trivia. Dirtbag politicians caving to the whiners about safety. Don

The Escort 9500ci is a custom installed system - it's very pricey (approx $2K, installed), but it's VERY cool. All sensors are behind the grill, or concealed at the rear. And, when it comes to laser, it detects it - but it also JAMS it - instantly. So, when the sensor is hit by laser, it instantly deflects the signal. And the LEO receives "insufficient data" or "no data" on his screen.

I went to two different places in Mobile today, recommended to me as good installers, both wanted right at 2K with installation...told hubby this is what I want for Christmas, hey it is cheaper than the jewelry store...

Oneslackr 12-06-2013 08:23 PM

Be safe out there. Most states are ball busters nowadays when it comes to speeding. Especially, when it comes to excessive speed or racing. I know TX upgraded street racing to a felony about 5 - 6 years ago.

The best way to avoid a ticket is don't speed/take it to the track! But what fun would that be in a Vette & a track isn't an option for everyone.

Having said that I've been using Escort Passport (i.e.Cincinnati Microwave radar detectors) since 1990 (yes I even used them in Virginia from 1990 until I moved out of Virginia in 1994). They make quality products that work well. I never leave home without it. I wouldn't have a license without one.

Radar detectors quickly pay for themselves if they are used correctly. The people who claim they are worthless either have never used one or don't take the time to learn to use them correctly. They work very well & my detectors have been saving me from speeding tickets every week for the last 23 years!

The following is for any of you new users of detectors who might not be that familiar with them. Unless the laws have changed in recent years radar detectors are only illegal in Virginia & D.C. in the U.S. They are illegal in Canada.

In Virginia the state police used to use the VG2 radar detector detectors but now they use Spectre IV or Spectre Elite units to detect them. Supposedly the Escort Redline is undetectable by Spectre but who knows. Do your research before buying a detector if you live in Virginia & plan to use one.

Just a few warnings for you new detector owners if you have never used one.

1. They don't make you invincible or invisible. You can still get busted, especially if you're the only one on the road & a LEO waits until he sees you & then zaps you with I/O (instant on) with their radar gun. Yes, your detector will go off but it will be too late.

2. Most detectors are horrible at picking up laser (LIDAR) & if they do you have already been busted. I don't have any experience with the various laser jammers/shifters but it might be worth investing in one if LIDAR is heavily used in your area. Again do your research.

Many cops are lazy & leave their radar guns in C/O (constant on) mode. You can usually pick these signals up well in advance.

When driving in traffic what you count on is the LEO taking multiple readings of traffic & then being able to pick up the errant radar signals well in advance. Usually, this gives you more than enough time to slow down.

3. Don't forget that all police cruisers have front & rear mounted radar antennas & they can read your speed even if you're coming up behind them.

4. Even if you have a remote mounted (i.e. hidden) detector installation & do get caught/pulled over the LEO will know you have a detector because the moment he zapped you you hit your brakes & slowed down. Good luck in talking your way out of a ticket even if he can't see your detector. If you have a visible windshield mounted detector the officer won't say anything about it but you will get a ticket.

5. Whether you use a radar detector or not don't forget to use a rabbit in front of you, whenever possible, if you're exceeding the speed limit. Don't follow the rabbit too closely. Better to let the rabbit take the heat/get busted rather than you.

Escort has a unique option on their detectors with Escort Live. People using the Smart Cord system with their detectors can help warn each other of radar locations in real time.

For example, (car A using Escort Live) picks up a police radar signal 10 miles ahead of you in (car B using Escort Live). That info from (car A) goes up to the cloud & then gets transmitted to other Smart Cord users (i.e. you in car B) giving you advance warning, well in excess of what your actual detector can pick up.

Read up on the details though because I'm not an Escort Live user. I believe it is subscription based & you need to use it along with either an iPhone/Android & you need to download an app for it to work.

I hope someone will find this info useful/helpful. Perhaps it will spare you from a speeding ticket & save you a few bucks.

You guys do realize that what was said applies to 99.9% of the people here, right? Thank God the op was stopped before something terrible happened.

Any time a corvette is in or close to its power band at wide open throttle is considered reckless driving on public roads. I guess we should all be happy with a 4 cylinder 150hp corvette? After all we dont want anyone hurting themselves.

Have a nice day

JackHall99,

You might think it's BS, but in NJ, In 1 week I got stuck behind 1 C3 driving 30 in a 50mph 2 lane road.

I saw a brand new C6 driven by someone going 20 in a 35mph zone (after being stuck for 5 miles, he pulled into the retirement community)

Then In Foxwoods, There was a c5 that pulled onto a 50mph road doing 20mph. I passed him with my subaru and when I looked back he was about a mile back before I turned to get on the highway.

That is just 1 week's example. (Oh, and I didn't see any other Corvettes that week)

Out of all the Corvettes I see on the roads most are "cruising" around rather than being "driven" around like a high performance vehicle.

You can call it BS if you want, but the Corvette has a stigma of being an old person's car. Here's an article:
http://www.autoweek.com/article/2013...roit/130129980

Granted every individual is different and there are 60 year olds (the average age of a Corvette owner) that have more skill than I ever will, but the older age group (65+) is just as likely to cause an accident as young drivers.
http://usatoday30.usatoday.com/news/...s-usat1a_N.htm

Honestly, I never thought I'd by a Corvette, but the C7 showed up at the right time and at the right price. I missed being able to order a 2013 BMW M3 . I didn't find any left over stock that I wanted so then I looked at the whole car playing field (Lotus, Porsche, GT-R etc...) and I focused in on the C7 and bought one. I'm glad I did, I love the car.

And I'm doing what I can to help change the stigma by driving the car as much as I can, talking to people if they ask about it, and driving it as opposed to cruising in it and blocking traffic.

SRQStingray 12-07-2013 06:37 AM

There are probably few of us who don't speed. It is hard not to when the road is clear and the car is running strong. I got pulled over by a sheriff for 85 in a 70 on I75. Sheriff was a good guy and told me that 80 is OK, but 85 is not. He let me off with a warning. If I want to drive 100 and over, I have Sebring less than 2 hours away and Homestead a little further away. On the track, you aren't likely to kill a family in a minivan, just yourself. I might get flamed, but I say take it to the track. It can be a lot less painful than a fine, possible jail time and astronomical insurance rates.

My Corvette speeding story:

I was riding with my brother in his brand new C5. We were screaming down the interstate. Life was good.

Then the blue lights came on. We were busted.

We pull over, Officer Buck walks to the car, my brother sheepishly rolls down the window, and Officer Buck asks "Would you like to explain why you were driving so slowly on the Interstate?"

Because the owner's manual says to keep it under 60mph during break-in! :withstupid:

However, be warned, the ticket for doing so is pretty hefty (rightfully so) . Over $1k by quite a bit and I'll leave it at that. I don't care about the stigma; it's been rattled around for a long time. Nor do I care about some USA Today article about 65+ people being involved in accidents.

You obviously ran into three pokey guys driving Corvettes, but you imply you never get equally frustrated by folks driving Cadillacs, M-Bs, Subarus and other marques.

In 57 years of driving, I've been frustrated by slow vehicles (usually trucks, an occasional piece of farm equipment, or someone who can't drive their sedan well) on two lane roads. None of the vehicles have ever been a sports or performance car driven by anyone of any age. Not once.

Sucks to live where you do.

Good for you if you've never seen a sports or performance car holding up traffic.

It's fine that you don't care about the stigma, but It's a good thing the folks at Chevy do. With new (buyers that would have bought other sports cars) and younger buyers, it will help the Corvette team build the case within Chevy to keep making them.

I wasn't implying that I don't get frustrated at other brands that slow traffic, you are assuming that.

Yes I see the Cadillacs, M-Bs, Subarus and other marques slowing traffic and it's annoying, but it's rarely the sports or performance versions holding everyone up.

Yup, sometimes it sucks to live where I am, but I'm close enough to the track to actually test the performance of my vehicles, so It's worth it.

I'm sure we can go round and round with this, but It's time to take my C7 out for a drive.

I did not care that a ancient drivel about the 'stigma' was thrown out here. Many threads abound on that topic.

We are both fortunate to have ready access to a track or tracks to drive on. :D

In my area, the Autobahn is closest at 36 miles, but Blackhawk Farms, Road America, Putnam Park and Grattan Raceway are within easy driving distance. RA is the toughest to get on. Drive safe and enjoy.
