Front fender Emblem

Lets say a guy who owned a 1977 Corvette wanted to replace the crossed flags emblem on the front fenders with the Stingray emblem from earlier C3 Vettes.......are the mounting studs on the Stingray emblem positioned in same location as the Crossed Flag emblem i.e. will it be straight etc.??

Sunstroked 04-17-2014 06:55 PM

I doubt it. There are 4 holes for the 72 stingray emblem, not sure if they are all the same.

The pin locations, aren't even close, for the Stingray emblems and the 77/79 fender flags.

There are actually 2 versions of the Stingray scripts, but neither would have "pins" close the ones on the flags. The 69-73 Stingray has 4 long pins, to accept speed nuts. The 74-76 Stingray has 3 short pins, to align the emblem, but it's attached with double sided tape.

The pins on the Stingray scripts are positioned randomly, when compared to the two pins on the flags, which are about 2" apart, and on the same plain.

OK, thanks. The Crossed Flags look awesome as well, I was just considering the idea.

please don't even try it according to some purists you will be immediately struck by lightning and killed.

Yeah, I was waiting for that one.....my response to them.....SHUT UP! There is nothing Original about any restoration. In fact, once you pump the first tank of gas into the car originality is gone.

Besides that, I drive my car.

i feel the same way!

It doesn't take a purist to notice extra empty holes in a fender.

No need to worry, I will use the original emblem. If I could have fitted the Stingray emblem, I would have thought about it.

I'm sure you could remove the pins, position the Stingray script to cover the holes. The double sided tape will hold just fine

daanbc 04-18-2014 08:45 AM

Yes you can always remove the pins and use the double side tape. Have you also thought about using the "new" StingRay emblem which comes with tape.?

MrJlr 04-18-2014 09:31 AM

My emblem fell off - after a 300 mile drive, it fell off in my garage!

Anyway, I reattached it with the double sided tape.
What a tedious PITA that is!
Cutting little tiny pieces of tape little by little.

Wish there was a better way!

The Stingray emblem has been around long before the C7.

Correct as usual. Sometimes I wonder how GM managed these kind of precision measurements on the assembly line.

I went back to the Stingray script last year but I still like those emblems and may use them again. Like the script they have three studs and fit perfectly. Adhesive Goop on the inside of the fender (on the studs) holds them very nicely.
