Help me build my new Vette

Hello everyone!

Long time lurker, recently joined and my first post.

I’ve been in love with Corvettes since I was a boy growing up in Saint Louis. At that time Corvettes were built on Union Blvd. and several of my friends fathers worked on the Corvette line. Some retired and some moved to Bowling Green.

I’m finally in a position to own one and I’ve decided to buy new. I was hoping to get advice on refining my order to get a Vette that will hold its value.

Please feel free to pick on any of my choices/ tell me why my choice is a mistake and / or what else I should add.

Here’s what I’ve decided on:

2015 2LT Z51 Convertible. Night Race Blue w/ adrenaline red interior
-Z51 5-split spoke chrome aluminum wheels (chrome is ‘classic’ and I’m -concerned the black is trendy)
-8-speed paddle shift automatic (new for 2015. Live in City where much driving will take place and think auto is just more convenient option on a daily basis)
-MSR Ride Control
-Performance exhaust
-GT bucket seats
-Navigation system

Where did I go wrong?
What am I missing?

Do wheel center caps matter?
Is there any of the interior or exterior bling (like stingray logos, etc) that will mark the car as something special 10 years from now?

Any and all advice / criticism is appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Blue with red interior too much of a contrast for me...you asked...I'd do grey or kalahari. No chrome wheels, do silver.

Sounds like a great choice .. your car, get exactly what you want.

I also grew up in St Louis .. nice place, but traffic is nutso. I also fell in love with Corvettes at an early age, and then was introduced to a friend's new Stingray in '63. In those days you could get all sorts of special options just by asking ..

Welcome to the forum. Lots of info here.

Get what you want. Cars are a depreciating asset. Don't worry about holding it's value. It won't. Also, performance exhaust is included with the Z51 option in 2015. Go for it!

If it were me, I'd ditch the chrome and get silver wheels and red calipers.

Vettnutt is 100% correct. Order the car how you want it and not how you think the next owner might want it. Know, though, that your color combo of choice is not a common one and that it will have limited appeal down the road.

I would rethink the blue with a red interior, the colors seem to clash

DW,
All Vettes will depreciate. Order what YOU want and forget about the next buyer. Drive it like you stole it!

:iagree: Also, chrome wheels Z51 are a must with body color..

Rethink the colors. I'd go with 3LT Kalahari, chrome wheels, and red calipers. You'll love the vert.

The only thing I would add would be red calipers. Keep the Night Race Blue with Red interior. Red interior is the only color I would get with NRB. Put a blue top on it.

NRB looks almost black so I don't see where the colors clash. My local dealer sold a 2013 Grand Sport NRB/RED interior and it looked good.

upper trim suede package. "IWE" neat and half price on convertible. chrome wheels waste of money IMOP, get standard silver, save 2k, or get black and trade even up for chrome. nightrace blue/red costs extra, why? maybe go black/red. also don't forget those custom valve stem covers, code "SDN" people are lining up for those, LOL.

You'll love the NRB! Love mine. I also like the chrome wheels. Some do some don't. Google NRB pics and click on images. You'll see tons of wheels black and a ton chrome. Will give you other perspectives to select from. Other than that, I agree that the red may not be so hot. Then again, mine is brownstone and would have never thought that would look good with NRB...but it does!

Seems like a beautiful package, I would love to see one of those in my driveway

I have to agree with the interior comments. Of course, there are some supports to that combination as well.

More to the point, congratulations on finally getting that car you have liked/loved since you were young. I'm still waiting to get the money but I have loved them since the '63.

I saw the "kalihari' interior color.:willy: I would not do that!

dwward 06-18-2014 11:04 PM

Thanks for all the thoughtful comments.

Years ago I saw a 64 Vette in midnight blue with red interior and that's where I got the idea. I get that it's not for everyone and I may change my mind. Dark blue and red are popular baseball colors. BoSox, Nationals and Cardinals are three examples.

And honestly, a black gray or kalihari interior is just so pedestrian.

For those who argue against chrome wheels, is it just the aesthetic you don't like or is there a practical reason to not pick chrome? In the package I priced, there wasn't a up-charge for chrome (but I misunderstand). I also like the black wheels on NRB, but I'm concerned black wheels might just be a fad.

I'm thinking seriously about red calibers. Not sure yet.

Of course all vettes depreciate. But I want a 'classic' look that is tricked out but stock for the long run, i.e. no fad colors or bling or tacky aftermarket add-ons. I know, your thinking "yea, so what about the NRB w/ red interior?' but I think this is 'classic'. And as I said, you may have wore me down on this point.

.

Agree, look at a Brownstone. Mine is rolling down the line in days in a CRT convertible.
