OBDII Port - Can it be relocated ?
 

Can the OBDII port be either relocated or a second one added?

On Amazon they sell a variety of OBDII port extension cables that you could mount wherever you like.

Sure but why, seems like a pretty good place already.

Good place for what? Good for being hard to connect the cable (leaning over the roll cage from the side of the car trying to reach the flipping thing) and easy to trip over the cable once it's connected..
My thinking is that the connection to my data logger would be much simpler if I could tap into the OBDII from the passenger side or from the console area instead of underneath the driver side..

Probably an extension cable is your best bet so you don't have to relocate the existing port. The manufacturer is required to locate the OBDII data link connector within 3 ft or 1 meter (not sure which) of the steering wheel. You could run an extension cable from the OEM port to whatever location you wish and still maintain the position of the OEM port.

An extension cable doesn't do what he wants as any extension would still need to plug into the OBDII plug.

First, it's no help if you're standing next to the car reaching in to plug in the laptop. The plug is still at the bottom of the dash.

Second and more importantly, extension or not when that HPTuners cable is plugged in to the port and hanging between your legs your first though isn't "gee, i wish the cable were longer" it's "geez i wish the damned plug wasn't right between my legs."

That said, I can't find any reason why you can't move that plug. It's in an industry standard location but I see no reason why you couldn't move it. Then once it's no longer pointed straight between your knees an extension could indeed become useful. I agree. Data logging or quick tune changes are a pain in the ass with the plug where it is.

Not trying to be an A$$ but this isn't rocket science. Take the lower panel down move the connector to the top side. Then use the extension to go to the right side of the car.

I would ask what you intend to use the port for. If you have a self-powered OBD reader, you really need just the OBD bus wire (pin 2) plus ground (pins 4+5). If you also need +12V, a third pin #16 is needed. All of these inputs are available at many places in the vehicle and can be spliced or teed in.

The passenger foot well is the location of the "star" connector where all the OBD devices junction together. Every computer in the C5 is on the OBD bus. You can tee-in anywhere an OBD wire is found because it's a shared one-wire bus. A couple other possibilities are under the rear toneau cover with the RFA (TPMS/keyfob receiver), or in the trunk with the F45 controller (if so equipped).

If you need 12V with significant current, make sure your power draw will not blow a fuse for the circuit you tap into.
