2014 to a 2015 trade
 

called the dealer to see what it would cost to trade my 2014 to a 2015 same options, color, ext. 1000 miles on mine. was shocked when he told me the price $17000.

Just curious but why would you want to trade a new car for a new car?

My last Vette, a C6, I sold with 126,000 miles on it.
The one before that had 186,000 miles on the clock.....

I sold my 2014 and made money. 2015 on order.

Wanted 8 spd trans.

For OP, all depends on what they are selling you a 2015 for--Supplier pricing--probably not? That makes a difference. Might help if you broke out trade price and selling price.

Also, 2014's are old model at this point (1 year old), with 2015's on the way with new 8 spd, 2014's will take a large hit.

I have a friend that is very wealthy and wanted to trade either his fairly new Jag or Porche both with under 30k milses. The dealer offered him 5k to 7k for each one. They see guys with cash coming and think they wont care about the loss. Needless to say they lost a cash customer. What a scam! Sell it yourself. I'm sure you can move it on your own.

That's funny....If you bought the car right to start you can probably retail it yourself for very close to what you paid for it...

Sell it yourself or be prepared to get bent over at a dealer. I'm assuming you're wanting to trade to get the 8spd?

In Texas the tax credit on trade goes to new car...no real taxes on 2015. Thanks :thumbs:

And the 2015 will be the old model next year. What's up with all this 2014 depreciation talk. The '15 is no game changer. A lot of you guys act like the car has been completely revamped again. I guess this talk will happen year after year as they add new models, extra power, and features to the C7 lineup.

Person asked why I'm trading and I replied. Sorry if you don't like it. 8 spd will be new trans, so many will want that vs 6 spd. I flip cars 3-4 times a year, so I'm the wrong person to make this comment.

That sounds about right. Your current car is used and he has to sell it as such and make a profit doing it. And for all the reasons you want a 2015 instead of your 2014, is why your 2014 has diminished value.

There still remain many brand new 2014's available all over the place so your used car would be competing with those. And the 2015s will never be a hotter or harder to come by than they are right now.

If you want to minimize the cost of the trade, sell your 2014 outright.

Lol. He didn't exactly ask you. He asked the OP. And it's not a matter of me disliking your comment. I just like to let things unfold instead of making blind assumptions. I have an M7 anyways and got it for supplier price, so don't think I don't care about or try to offset my depreciation as much as possible. Sure, the A6 may be less desirable now, but we also have seen no reviews of the A8.

"Old Model"........looks like the same car to me. But I can understand why some members prefer the 8sp transmission over the 6sp. Just curious how they would compare with the 8sp having a 2.41 gear as opposed to the 2.56 gear for the 6sp in the 1/4 mile. GM already indicated better gas mileage on the 8sp.

Some really funny comments in this thread.

Guys have been unloading their 2014's starting 2 or 3 months or more ago, while all the live ones were willing to pay msrp or slightly less instead of waiting just a little longer till all the first year hysteria ended and they could get a brand new one at a discount. You should still be able to sell it privately without taking a major hit, but that window is closing rapidly as the 15's hit the street and people start to wise up to what the one year old 14's with the has been A6 in particular, are worth.

The industry survives because of people finding reasons to trade up. Car & housing sales keep the economy going. Amen and thank you to everyone participating!

It sounds like the dealer reached deep inside their a$$ and plucked out a trade figure.

There isn't anywhere near a $17k difference in value between identical 2014s and 2015s. Not nearly enough improvement to the 2015s to make that much of a difference.

You will do fine selling it yourself.
