Currently have an 8 speed Charger and 9 speed Cherokee (both V6), and yes, you can tell that they change gears more often than, for example, my previous 5 speed Charger. Still, my base line is a 2 speed Powerglide '57 Chevy, so everything since has been busier. You quickly get used to the extra changes, which are pretty smooth. I would suspect that a C7 with all the torque of the V8 would not be bothersome at all. Also, the upgrade from C7 6 to 8 speeds (2014 to 2015) is not a huge change, again because of the torque pushing a relatively light vehicle.

promise he would have been "shocked" if you signed up! What a joke.

Actually from a dealers point of view, $17,000 off of list isn't probably far fetched. Look at this way. You can get $5000 off a new 2014 stingray now. So what would it take for a person to want to buy a used 2014? Probably another $5,000. That's $10,000 off leaving $7,000 gross profit for the dealer before anything is put back into the car including the advertising and interest costs to carry the car in inventory.

The dealer where I bought is still selling Z51 at sticker price yet.

OK seriously, don't know. Look at Autotrader to get a gauge if you are selling direct. Take it to Carmax and two other places and that will giveyou a good range.

:iagree: What he said. Autotrader is a great place to both assess selling price and to advertise your car. You'll see an even bigger selection there than on eBay Motors.

Wow! You literally just described my exact situation. Our cars

are just too awesome. No way could I justify a 15 - 20K hit

(for the Z06).

2014 to a 2015 Trade

Now there's a man after my own Heart...I have been doing the same thing since 1965 and I am rapidly approaching 70 New Corvettes.
For me personally I enjoy it I never look back and the fact that my Late Wife approved of it (from 1970 on) made it that much easier.......
As long as your Priorites are taken care of then go for it.....Its one vice that does not hurt anyone...
I to have a 2015 on order and I am getting ready to sell a 2014 Z51 6 Speed Convertible that I bought Prior to the price increase....
Also in my Garage is a 2014 Coupe which will go when the ZO6 becomes available--assuming I am still breathing.....Anything to help the economy..Harvey

Not dreaming at all. Check out Kerbeck.com All the Verts including Z51 are currently $5,000 off. Now as a buyer, why would you pay anything close to new for a used Stringray? I'm not saying you are going to be able to go out today and buy a used one for $10,000 off but when the 2015's arrive you already have a 1 year old used car. It wouldn't make sense to buy used if you can buy new for the same price. With that said, the OP should just sell his car outright and in a worse case scenario, he sells it for $10k off retail and hopefully will be able to buy the 2015 for $5k off list (with supplier / credit union discount it will not be an issue at all as it will be more than $5k off list) and then he will take a $5k hit at most to get into his 2015.

That's funny....If you bought the car right to start you can probably retail it yourself for very close to what you paid for it...

Just curious how they would compare with the 8sp having a 2.41 gear as opposed to the 2.56 gear for the 6sp in the 1/4 mile. GM already indicated better gas mileage on the 8sp.

if they can't get the elec's rigrt on the early 14's can't wait to see the 8 speed trans . and a 4-8 motor match up

I purchased my 2014 prior to the price increase in April. I chose my options with a return value at trade in time. The future C7's will sell for less then MSRP. All this fractured my depreciation rate should be within reason for a 2017 purchase. I think with a little creativity current 2014 owners should fair well.

Crossed Flags Fan 08-04-2014 11:02 AM

It will be interesting to see how the 8 spd combined with the 4-8 AFM will feel. I can detect (slightly) when it goes in and out of AFM and of course when it changes gears (have the A6). Hopefully it won't be something early adopters will get frustrated about.

kp 08-04-2014 11:38 AM

17K for the same C7 1 year newer? I would find a new dealer - not a new car :)

The A8 isnt going to be THAT impressive, if it was I would think there would be numbers all over the place 'leaked' from GM. There are plenty of mules out there with an A8 and I'm sure GM knows the performance numbers, and if there isnt I certainly want to be the one beta testing a new auto trans on a '15.

Dont get caught in the hype, wait another year for a horsepower bump and more standard features and deeper discounts. Or at least wait until some real A8 numbers are out there, the '14s no matter what trans are over the hill as far as the first year depreciation hit right now with '15s right around the corner so its too late. I generally trade cars a lot, and sure I'd 'like' the 8 speed, but I'm happy with the A6 for the way I drive and dont really see it worth my time to get a '15 if thats all it offers. Now add 30 horsepower and if the A8 if it proves to be as great as some claim, I may bite in '16..

It's funny how the dealers will quote or reference documented trade values ONLY when they think it is their favor, but tell you the documented values don't reflect actual market value when the documented values are not in their favor.

Dealers in markets where they think they can still sell a 2014 at MSRP aren't going to get a $17k difference on a trade. They can certainly try, but they can't have it both ways. It's up to the person trading in the 2014 to set them straight, or just sell your 2014 yourself.
