new gs and tires
 

after many years of waiting finally got my car ive always wanted! its not new but it is to me its a 2010 gs 3lt with heritage package torch red its got 10000 mile s on it and the tires look to be in need of replacement soon I have read on a few post where some of you go up one size is that just on the rear or front to? and what size would they be? I try and search for pics of them on the car but haven't had any luck! thanks for any help with this

If you want to step up ever so slightly: 285/35/18 fronts, 345/30/19 rears
Otherwise, stock sizes 275/35/18, 325/30/19 are pretty big as is.

There are so many posts on the forum about tires. Suggest going to Tire Rack and see what price you want to pay. I like Michelin Pilot Super Sport. They are not run flats and seem to ride better and quieter. We carry a pump and repair kit in back. Congrats on the car and hope you enjoy it!

Also get a "street alignment" for longer tread life and stick with the stock size, larger diameter tires will slow the car needlessly.

can you point me to a post on the "street alignment" please, can't find one, would like to get the specs...

PFADT has street alignment specs. which are listed on here. Do a search.

I took my car to a "good" GM dealer that did a street alignment which were not the same street specs. as the PFADT street specs. but after looking at the dealer's settings which were milder in my book I went with it and the wear across the tires is even, so I am satisfied.

I had my front wheel off on my 10 GS to check brake pads and looked at my Potenza RFT's with 12K on them and they look great. Stock brake pads were good also with 34K on the car.......I also had a street alignment done when I put the tires on....

Congrats on your purchase. I'm sure you will soon discover if you haven't already it was worth the wait. I just put the Michelin Pilot Super Sports non RF on my GS at just over 10k miles and it's like a different car.

Love my Hankook non RF at a fraction of the cost.

I just got the potenzas pole position 50 and like them but the hankooks would be a good NON run flat if that is what you want and i would have considered it but they were not available in canada this past month, and my luck I need the run flats, had a flat already and the hole was with a large screw and I was screwed even with a plug kit,

if you are not going to track it the hankooks look nice and should wear evenly and for a long time, also less cost if you want a set to SPIN off so as to speak (thanks don-vette asI would not have even considered them if not for your post earlier)

15k on f1's, they are toast.

had road force balancing and pfadt alignment. stock goodyear run flats. very happy, car handles great. will not put on non run flats, too many accidents when pulled to side of road, and not crazy about crawling under car to put in a plug. this is 2014, not 1994. no need to not use run flats. if you get a flat, just go to store and either get repaired or replaced. no brain surgery here.

How do the Bridgestone RF's compare to the road noise and harsh ride of the GY's?

Michelin Super Sports are the way to go. I have over 18k on mine now with about 6/32ds of tread left. They grip like crazy and are great in cold temps even down to around 3F. They are about $1400 a set so that shouldn't break your bank.

Yes they are non runflats. Run flats are actually old technology as they have been around for a long time. I haven't heard anyone have more than a slow leaker with a Super Sport. Run Flats also can't be fixed in a lot of remote locations (where they are supposed to help the most).

Also there is nothing wrong with using the CENTER of GM's specs. That is what I have been using. I doubt I would see better wear using the street specs. Goodyear Runflats are crap though so they might make them wear better which isn't saying much. I initially had street specs put on my GS but the control arm started to scrape so I tried the center of GM specs and haven't went back since. To prove that the Street specs are not that great, the front camber is basically the same (-.2 more for GM's) however the rear camber is -.7 higher. Most GS owners have trouble with the front tires wearing out the insides first, not the rear tires. Less camber just makes the rear end be loose in cornering.
