Help with engine identification

2 Attachment(s)
I know this is a worn out topic but searching didn't help with this question.

Just bought a C2 with a NOM big block. Car born as L79. This engine has a casting number of 3969854 and a date code of H79 (8/7/69).
That decodes to a 69-72 396/402 2&4 bolt main. Okay fine. But the stamp on the front area in front of the right head is T1227IL. Which decodes to a Suffix code 66-68 Corvette 427 390HP. Hard to believe a block made in 69 would be in a car built the year before.

Also looks like the pad was grinded. Car has a canister oil filter.

Pix of the numbers below. Any help figuring this out would be appreciated.

VIN is ground out and the engine suffix is a restamp. Just my opinion....

:iagree: it is a re-stamp for sure

That is what I am suspecting too. But that area looks unmolested? And do they really think they can fool people that easily?

That one is so bad it almost makes you wonder if there isn't something legitimate about it...almost.

I would be interested in seeing that pad without the paint.

Here is an interesting pad. Thoughts?

I am going to pull valve covers and get some head numbers. Maybe that will narrow things down some.

You might want to also consider examining the casting date code on your block to see if it matches and makes sense.

Oops!:ack:

I'm thinking that the only value in your block is - being a 350 block for an engine build.

No... It's a sweet running BIG BLOCK! Just not sure exactly what size. Really doesn't matter, I am very happy with it.
