C7 door rattle (and how I fixed it)

Recently I noticed a disturbing amount of rattle from the outside of my doors when my music was on. You might not even know you have this problem, unless you turn on your stereo, close the doors, and listen from the outside. Some may say who cares if I don't hear it inside, but trust me it sounds like absolute crap. This is how I fixed it.

First, I utilized the following link from Andrew6@TheDoubleAA that demonstrates how to remove the door trim:

https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...-specific.html

Here is picture of the driver's side door with the trim removed, after I started dynamating it. You need to remove the pliable membrane to access the inner part of the door. (Note: I didn't replace it, and haven't noticed any issue.)

The root issue is the outer door skin vibrating against the ribbed structural support. By wedging some two inches strips of dynamat into the crease the rattle is now gone. Not to mention, the quality of sound is better in my book.

Cool tip, thanks.

That pliable membrane is there for water control. You want the water that drips down the window glass to exit the bottom of the door frame, not flip inside and wet the back of the door panel.

A gob of RTV injected into that gap is another option.

There is a service bulletin for that issue. I printed it out and brought it to the dealer to have them remedy it. The official fix is to use 3m window weld ribbon sealer to apply along that area and stop the rattling. But i like your dynomat solution better since it makes the vehicle quieter as well.

Well done....

There is a TSB on this issue as well

The rtv works well and is less weight/expense.

I did this to both doors after going to several audio/stereo installers who wanted to charge anywhere from $50-$150 just to take the door off and assess the problem.

What rtv did you use? Anyone else done this and has it worked for the long term?

Did not see this when it was first posted. Good solution to the problem.

Back in the day a "matchbook" could stop dang near every rattle in my old Chevy. :D

Thanks for the tip sir, you never know when one might need this info.

TSB number?

What is the # of the TSB to cure the driver door rattle and where do I go to print it out? I’d like to bring a copy to my Dealer so they can correct the problem. Thanks in advance.
