CAGS Skip Shift question

a vendor on the bay has a listing for a CAGS skip Shifter harness but it clearly lists
"This product does not eliminate the 1st to 4th shift light, NO bypass can."
Do all Skip Shift eliminators still displays the light on dash? I thought the plug harness eliminates it?

None of them keep the light from illuminating. They just simulate the solenoid on the lock out being connected, even though it cannot be activated.

The alert still comes on but you are now able to shift into 2nd even with that alert appearing. I do not think theres a way for it to not appear.

Normal

I rarely see the indicator illuminate. I usually drive outside of the CAGS parameters anyway. When CAGS does happen to catch me, my attention is usually on the road. If I am caught I just slide up into 3rd and carry on.

With all that torque and gearing you won't need the CAGS bypass nearly as much as it was needed on past cars. I loved it on my C5 but don't intend to get one for my new GS.

I get hit with cags all the time. Driving me crazy. I have the part but have not installed yet. Priority now.

All it did was train me to shift at 2500 or more.

For a bit more detail:
CAGS is designed for fuel economy. If a certain set of parameters is met...

Approx values are speed between 13 and 17, rpm between 1000 and 1700, and gear=1, then the computer will physically lock out 2nd and 3rd gear, illiminate the dash light, and force a 1-4 shift

In the C5, the gates are squared off - for me, this would hang the stick, by the time I fumbled around and found 4th, RPM had dropped off too far, so the car chugged.

In the 7, the lockout is angled, so the stick slides relatively smoothly into 4th.

For my 5, the CAGS eliminator may be the best 20$ I spent for mods,
For the 7, because of the gate lock redesign, I haven’t needed it. (Even though during my low speed commute, it activates semi regularly).

I put one on my 04 z06 but not on my new Grand Sport. It hardly ever activates so it's not needed for me. I think maybe a couple times in 2400 miles.

Just drive it like a sports car and none of it matters. :yesnod:

BigJay08 08-26-2018 09:33 AM

The DiabloSport tuners also allow you to disable this. When you do it this way you don’t get the prompts anymore.

Which qualifies as a tune which voids the warranty?

BigJay08 08-26-2018 12:04 PM

It backs up your factory tune so simply restore it before taking it in for any service.

Yes, it's incredibly easy to avoid, so save your money.

The fact that a tune as been done is recorded in the ECU. Restoring a tune won't hide that fact. That's enough for GM to put a warranty lock on the car right there. On the other hand taking a car in for service doesn't mean they will look for a tune. There are lots of service issues that don't require it. If you don't care about your warranty, it's no big deal. If you do, putting a tune on the car is not a smart thing to do.

Pull the bulb? (I realize that is cost and time time prohibitive, but....)

Have to understand you are fooling the computer to thinking it activated the blocking solenoid. So the computer still activates the light. A resistor just replaces the solenoid. If it wasn’ there it would trip a cell.

Thunder22 08-26-2018 04:36 PM

the op is almost 2 years old, why are people still giving him advice?

JerryU 08-27-2018 11:48 AM

^^
Because it pops up as***** just resonded to! There are always new owners that have questions. A Tread can take on a life of it’s own and posters are oblivious to the OP or their question!
