Corvette's 100th anniversary
 

With 50th anniversary here, I started thinking. Will there be a Corvette in 50 more years? No other model name has survived that long, granted in 1903 there really were'nt any model names, just letters and body styles. Can a car be popular enougth to live through 100 or should I say 50 more years of changing preferences, resessions, fuel shortages, and any number of other changes I cannot forsee. The easy answer to the question would be yes, but when you consider the fact that many popular car models have gotten the axe in the past. For example could'nt ford just as easily kept the model T name even though the actual car evolves? instead of the Ford Taurus why could'nt it be the 2003 Model T?. Consider the fact that every time the Corvette is redesigned it is a new car with an old name and is not like past Corvettes. I know most times parts carry over from one generation to the next, but lots of these parts are shared by other GM cars, even the 57 fuellie was availiable on the Bel air. Currently the longest running name plate is the Chevy Suburban which first appeared in 1935 which makes it 68 years old. So thats the question, just some off the top of my head thinking may sound silly, but as we have seen the youth of this country has gone frome V-8's and Camaro's and Mustangs, and many other muscle cars, to taking little Hondas and swearing by them, so anything can happen. In 2053 The Corvette will be 100 years old and I'll be 82 so if I take care of myself I may get to find out first hand. One thing is for certain, when this world is no longer dependant on fossil fuels the replacement fuel source better be capable of performance numbers to make them worthy of bearing the name Corvette. :auto: :auto: :auto: :auto: :party: :steering:

darn i'll be 90 guess i better put my order in now so i can get the first 100 year anniv model :lol: :lol:

With the way GM thinks, I'm surprised the vette lasted this long. As much as I would like to see a 100th Anniversary(I'll be 88, so I might still be around) I don't think it will happen, We'd be lucky to see a 75th. I hope GM proves me wrong.

I would be 97 for the 100th anniversary. Possible but not real likely. I would think that Corvette has enough momentum it would take GM mismanagement on an astronomical scale to kill it off....but from Ive heard about the design and development of the C5 they almost did just that. Never underestimate the stupidity of people. Theyll always exceed your expectations in that area. :blueangel:

I'll be 79 when the C10 comes out. :D I'm not so much worried that GM will kill the Vette by then. I'm more worried that humanity will kill itself. :( But that's a whole other topic. :blueangel:

I'll be about 72 by then. If there isnt a 100th anniversary model I'm sure I'll still have some model Corvette in the garage.

I think that as managment turns at GM...someone will have the idea to replace it with something else. I really think that it will happen within 20 years...

I'll be 109 by then and probably not alive. If I am, I'll probably wish I wasn't. I hope for future generations the Vette is still alive. :seeya

I'll be 91 and God willing still alive then. I hope the Vette makes it that long, it would be nice to see. That would make a nice thread in of itself, "what would the 100th Aniv. look like?"
Either way, I hope to have one in the garage forever.
