Re: Z06 Carbon Fiber Valve Covers (Jim Hall)

The Red Kevlar/Black Carbon fiber valve covers would feature direct replacement of the stock covers. No cover on cover, but a true replacement carbon fiber unit.

The Look: If you have not seen the red Kevlar Carbon, it is similar to the stock color. These covers would have the CORVETTE in black integrated carbon fiber, with the Z06 logo. We could also offer them in black carbon fiber, with red lettering.

If there is enough interest, we will price these to sell, not max out your credit card.

Jim

http://www.corvettec5.com/Z06_Fuel_Rail_Red.jpg [b]sample swatch of the carbon/red planned for the Z06. Integrated CORVETTE and Z06 official logo. Coming in three weeks max, or sooner. Molds are being fabricated.

As you can see, the color is a dead nuts on match. When the vinyl ester is autoclaved it comes out somewhat darker.

We will also be making carbon/Lemans Blue

, and carbon/Silver, 50th Anniversary carbon/red.

All these colors will also be available in our TRAP system. Pricing soon.

Ok, could we get them smooth, with no logos, etc... Just plain carbon fiber. I am wondering since some folks might like to paint logos, etc on them

Re: Z06 Carbon Fiber Valve Covers (J-Rod)

There are so many variations of what people want, we are going to try to customize these as much as possible. Plain is a no brainer for sure.

On all special orders, we will have the generic flavor on our website, without logos at all, then have a special order logo pricing schedule to add Corvette, Z06, etc.

Initially we'll have about 5 logo selections from which to choose and just the red kevlar, and black carbon. The other colors if there is an interest will take 4 weeks to order.

All logos will be integrated into the carbon fiber process at 100 PSI in the autoclave. This makes the logo look very cool.

For instance, the red/kevlar 50th Anniversary color, will have the gold/yellow kevlar 50th Logo, in the same size and shape as the fender logo. It is not possible to get the flag detail into the logo, but it will definately look cool.

Actually the Corvette logo will be in raised lettering-a mirror of stock. All the other logos will be optional. $25.00 for each side. This is my cost on the logos. The artwork is a bear for the CAD guy. They are then cut out of carbon fiber so that they integrate directly into the CF. This Tunnel Ram Bridge is an example of how it looks when the light hits it.

http://www.corvettec5.com/Tunnel_-Bridge_CF.jpg These are available now. They fit all C5s, all years, and are made stronger than anything we have done before. The autoclave process is done with a bladder on the inside to make the unit very smooth, and a bag, 100 PSI pressure at high temperature four hours. Five layers of CF make this piece as strong as metal and light as a feather.

Our complete TRAP in carbon fiber will be ready in one week, with Flow Bench results for the forum. We will be testing stock vs. Halltech on the bench. Some folks will be very surprised at the results.

Next Monday or Tuesday I should have our first Carbon/Kevlar Red Tunnel Ram Air PaK Stage 1 and 2 ready for the 50th Anniversary Car. It will feature a yellow/gold 50th Anniversary logo on the TRAP, and in about 2 weeks the molds should be done for our first Carbon/Kevlar Red Beauty Covers.

I promise to sell the first 50 at $50.00 over cost, just to recover our mold cost and get these beauties out to the forum.

The quality will be so spectacular, that word of mouth will sell them for us.

Re: Z06 Carbon Fiber Valve Covers (J-Rod)

Thanks J-Rod. We are trying to develop other carbon fiber products for the C5, and next year the C6.

Our new TRAP intake is now available in pure carbon fiber, with an introductory price starting next Wednesday for this forum.

The pricing will be for 2 weeks only, and will be $699.00, which is $200.00 more than our TRAP in polyethelene.

Our bottom mold is nearly finished, with a new laminar flow design, which should allow better performance on the flow bench.

Today, a customer came by and I replaced a Halltech T-1 system, with the TRAP upgrade. I did a diagnositc shapshot of the LT Trims before and after the install. The T-1 at idle had a plus 13% correction for cell 19, well within the PCM authority. This customer had the T-1 onboard for 2 years now, with no codes and was very pleased.

Right after the TRAP install, during an idle learn session, the LTFs for fuel cell 19 dropped to 8 percent within 60 seconds, showing the value of the tunnel section prior to the MAF sensor.

I then reprogrammed his computer using our TRAP Master LS6 file for the 2002 Z06. This brought the trims down to zero. I also dialed in 12.85:1 a/f ratios based on the PE/RPM code in WOT.

Tech 2 testing for one full day, showed no instance of knock retard at all at this "lean and mean" a/f ratio. Timing was bumped only 1 degree to start with.

This combination has our new Z06 motor at 378.7 RWHP/365 RWT, running through stock exhaust and no other mods.

Re: Z06 Carbon Fiber Valve Covers (Jim Hall)

Ages before my Z06 was built, GM sent me a carbon fiber cover for the engine. So far, it has not been installed. I still haven't figured out if it is suppose to be a replacement for the fuel rail covers or a cover that goes over the existing fuel rail covers. I haven't seen any information on it anywhere.

I like the idea of carbon fiber fuel rail covers. However, I have no idea what red carbon fiber looks like.

Re: Z06 Carbon Fiber Valve Covers (Jim Hall)

Hello Jim:

I second PPK1911's militant approach.
Yes, these fuel rail covers are nice dress up pieces.
But what about performance? Let's forget about fufu looks for
a moment and talk weight savings: CF versus ABS - not much.

However, if you took on the project of making the actual valve covers
in carbon fiber, I'd say: CF versus Aluminum - saves around 4 pounds
where it counts the most - forward and above the center of gravity.

Unfortunately we're not talking about F1 here so $5,000 per pound
saved seems out of the question. Sorry Jim ! :(
But I can see a lot of autocrossers and a bunch of roadracers, including
myself, as well as hundreds more paying around a hundred bucks per
pound of weight saved.

I can not imagine that the fabrication and tooling will be too complex to
do this job, as an aquaintance of mine just recently showed off his
carbon fiber valve covers on an evil blue oval pony car.

The purpose of my mini rant then is to entice you to make vavle covers
for us performance junkies. I hereby volunteer to be second on your list
of buyers for carbon fiber valve covers.

And just think how easy the selection process could be. You can offer these
beauties in any of the 16.7 million colors of the rainbow as long as its black.
At least one thing Fraud, er Ford, did right.

Thanks for your patience,

Check out this page on Jim's site:

http://www.corvettec5.com/store/?pag...e9f5c8e634d57c

Fuel Rail prices range between $389 for Carbon Fiber and $429 for Kevlar.

I have a full set of Red Kevlar on order, TRAP, Tunnel, & Fuel Rails. Debbie Hall called last week and said that they expect delivery by the end of last week. Keepin' my fingers crossed.

Re: Z06 Carbon Fiber Valve Covers... (Silver JD)

I just got the carbon fiber airbridge for my Z06... it is georgeous and I do like the car taken for the surfacing of the inside. Should provide flow enhancement in the "barrier effect" department.

I'll post some pics in the near future when things ease up a bit at work.

BTW... Jim handles Magnecor spark plug wires for the LS1 and LS6 motors... IMHO the best, no hype wire set available.

I'm far more interested in performance as opposed to "show car" goodies... Jim's pieces provide both performances and incomparable looks.

As far as true and genuine Carbon Fiber goes, Jim's stuff is inexpensive. It's also manufactured in a bona fide successful racing facility with many major wins in their history.
