1969 L-88 cam specs
 

I know the 69 L-88 cam was a solid style but anybody know what the specs where? Duration and lift and max rpm. Thanks!

1967-1969 L88 specs:

I'm sure others will know exactly, but I know it's pretty radical. I want to say it's 278/278 @ .050 .560/.560 108LSA. Max rpms should be around 7,200rpms.

69-L88 cam is yesterdays news, Buy a modern cam with a 272 duration if Auto or a 286 duration if stick. Enjoy

I just wanted to compare to my Crane 296-2 cam which is duration 236\246 at .050 and 553\571 for lift.......

L88 specs:
.540/.560 lift
334/364 duration.

ZL-1 specs:
.560/.600 lift
347/359 duration

HARDLY what I would call "old news".
They are TRUE performance cams and not a lot of fun to drive around with.
But if you can take the rough idle and want a big block to breathe, these WILL get the job done quite nicely.

69 L88 cam specs are:

332/333 degrees @ .024/.026" lash point
354/360 degrees @ 0.0" lash
264/270 @ .050"
.536/.554" @ .024/.026" lash
.560/.580" gross lift @ 0.0" lash

My stock spec L88 made 480rwhp with no tuning on the dyno. I just drove it there and they hooked it up. I honestly believe that I could have bettered that number with a bit of tweaking. Anyway, I think that even 40 year old technology proved itself to be pretty potent, even if "yesterday's news". The dyno operators were certainly very impressed. Only a few unjuiced/unblown engines have done better on this forum.

"Today's News", the new Crane solid roller is in, rocker geometry is now being adjusted. Hopefully engine/trans will be back in the car the next week.

Chuck with specs like those .050 you would think that it was a teriffically hot cam. But it's not when you graph out the slow ramp speed and minimal amount of time that it spends at max lift.

Spring technology has come along way.

Get that new motor going!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :thumbs:

Hence, the new Cam. Crane says it should be good for about 40hp more, plus give me better idle and mileage. For me, mileage is what it's all about! A real "green" machine!

Still, I have to take my hat off to the factory guys for designing something that makes that much power.

Thanks to all for the info, I really like my Crane powermax cam, but just like the L-88 its pretty weak down low then watch out! I do love the sound it makes and when you stand behind the car the exhaust hits you pretty hard. I am off to the dyno shop tommorrow to see what the beast really does. I will post the results.....

That's what makes them old news, the modest lift for the duration. I had an LT1 cam in my street rod, and it needed 1.6 rockers. Then it was really fun, especially above 3000rpm. I imagine a similar rocker upgrade would help the big block cams. Joe
