Default Storage on jack stands

This is probably a silly question, but just to make sure, aside from all the standard procedures for car storage, would there be any adverse side effects to storing the C7 on jack stands for 4/5+ months at a time?

Obviously a side effect is that I won't be driving it! But just wondering about structural issues.

Thanks.

Can't put a Corvette on jack stands in the summer time.

Against the law.

Penalty is forfeiture of the car by CF members. . . .

Just make sure the stands are secure on the front and rear suspension cradles, not on the frame rails.

HTH, and have a good one,
Mike

Haven't heard anything about the frame not liking it, but some say that the suspension isn't meant to hang for a long period of time and that it could be bad for shocks, springs and suspension bushings. I don't know if they're right, but I wouldn't store mine with the suspension hanging.

Heck mine sit for 3 - 4 months in the winter and I leave 'em on the wheels/tires. Another month isn't going to make any difference.

Don't forget to put a battery tender on it.

You should have some one like me periodically start it and move it for you.

Should not just start the car and let it idle etc. Should drive 30 miles or so to get the oil hot and burn off the moisture that condenses on start up as blowby passes the rings from the extra clearances when the pistons are cold. Also need that many miles to keep the battery charged.

I'm sure the OP can find a 17 year old kid in the area that would happy to do that every week for Free! Just be sure the tank is full so he doesn't have to buy gas!

Don't forget to put a battery tender on it.
Also pump up the tires to 35-37psi while it sits. Don't forget to let air out (if it needs it) when ready to drive it.

There is a lot of information in numerous other CF posts regarding storing a C7 (any car) for several months up to a year or so. Do a search and you should be able to pull up those recommendations.
Regarding your specific question, storing a car on jack stands is not recommended. If you're concerned about the tires developing flat spots just buy a set of tire cradles. Otherwise what would be the purpose of putting the car up on jack stands?

I thought you could place jack stands under the frame rail lift points? There are picture of the C7R in the race garage with its wheels off and the car is sitting on four jack stands located under the frame rail lift points. They jacked the car up in the front and rear and then placed the jack stands under the frame rail lift points.

Yeah, concern was flat spot on the tires. Didn't know if storage on jack stands would be better. I guess I'll go with the tire cradle route.

If you've read various posts here, you'll see that those of us who have to hibernate our cars in the winter have no worries about flat spots. As suggested, pump up the tires another 5-10psi. Done this for mega years, no problems.

Yes, but you're comparing a fully caged tube frame race car to a production car with a removable roof. My personal experience has been that cars that are supported in places other than the suspension tend to flex slightly, some to the point the doors won't close correctly until they are back on the ground.

JMHO. Have a good one,
Mike

I think you're worried about nothing. My Mercedes sat for 4 months, one of my Porsches was in a cocoon for 5 years and barely moved more than a few feet during that time. The common denominator was Michelin tires.

Default Not necessary

Storage on jack stands, if done improperly could result in suspension issues. I have deployed for 15 months, removed the negative battery terminal, left both vehicles parked on the wheels and had no issues upon return. I had someone check the tire pressure periodically to ensure I wouldn't get flat spots. When I returned I reattached the negative cable and both vehicles started and ran same as before. I didn't even change the oil until the regular mileage period, because I had synthetic oil. Bottom line; flat spots are a more cost effective fix than suspension.

Just let it sit how it does normally
Back in the old days of bias plys guys would do it not needed

Had mine on the ground for over a year now it will drive just fine (non vette) but has M/T tires. If putting a piece of wood or thick rubber under it makes you feel better about it then fine. Really, youll be fine. Cars sit on dealers lots all yr.
