In states requiring a front plate, GM will add to the order. I believe they were $15.00.
They are removable. My dealer asked if I wanted the plate holder installed or not. As I live in a state requiring a front plate, I had it installed.
Hope this helps.

I have one still in the plastic bag. FL does not require a front plate.

Picture is of an AERO PLATE not a front plate holder although many living in states requiring front plate use it as a plate holder. The front plate holder goes up over the grill onto the painted nose piece and the license plate is not bent as it would be if used with the aero plate. Many post on aero plate and modifying it for front license plate use.

The Aero Plate doesn't meet the letter of the regulations for a plate holder. It is too low and that is why the legal one is taped to the front fascia. However, the Aero Plate seems to work well for most of the people who use it to mount to their front plate. It is removable and looks good. In States like NY State that have non front plate states next to them it is common for people to purchase cars without the front plate holders and there are all sorts of places the plates get fastened on the front of the cars. High, low, far left, far right, etc. That means they don't get much attention from LEOs as long as they can see and read the plates.

No holes. Compression fit to the front grill.

I trimmed the outer edges so only the plate shows. Then you can wrap the outside edge with a black trim (which I have not done).

Fun fact: the Aeroplate was, at one point, presented by GM as a front plate holder.

In the MY 2014, the big books on the dealers' showrooms that showcased the different features of all the different cars, there it was in living color stating that it is indeed a front plate holder, even though the frame that came with the car said it is not a plate holder. It also was not actually available in Carbon Flash.

That's NY! LEO will pull over and ticket so the plate went on. As mentioned earlier in this thread, it is easy to remove. Sorry you had to see those bug guts in that pic. They have been removed!

I put on a tinted cover. Bad pic but it takes the focus off the plate.

I use the Aero version on my '14. There are even dimples in the bracket indicating where the holes are for the plate so it was obviously designed initially for use as a plate holder. I've never had any issue in MN re the height of the plate; it seems as long as you're displaying one you're fine. Never had any overheating issues with it blocking as it does cover a portion of the open grille area.
