If you must have a wide body, buy a car that has had it already done or get a Grand Sport, Z06 or ZR1. Converting a base Vette to a wide body can cost you more than buying a Vette already that way, unless you buy a wreck and put a wide body kit on it. Then there can be aftermarket quality issues with kits like proper fit and finish.

As the owner of a Grandsport I say get one of them instead of converting a base car to a widebody. Its an amazing car that's close to Z06 performance and you'll save $$$$ to modify it the way you want.

Both the C6z06 (LS7) and the Grand Sport (LS3) are great platforms.
The LS7 has the raw torque and get up and go that non of the other LS engines have (1/2/3/6).
The LS7 responds very well to heads and cam while the LS3 responds really well to head cam and supercharger.
If your looking to keep the car stock or "near stock" then hands down C6z06/LS7 but you really cant go wrong with either (LS7 or LS3).

If you find a Z06 that you like and in your price range go for it. I have a base model am happy with it as my DD but it was more of a found exactly what I was looking for in color, options, mileage, etc.. for me than anything else. As I figure if I need / want more power, i can always add it in many different formats.

I would probably go with a used C7 if I was considering a C6 Z price range .. but that is just me. Get what you want- I would be cautious with the ZO6 as mentioned several times they have known mechanical issues but they are definitely cool with the dry sump system and extra power. I find my base engine that is tuned with upgraded exhaust and air intake is plenty fast for me but if you want to track or race you will want the extra HP. Also mentioned previously but important- I like to take the targa top off on a perfect day and you can't get that with the Z. You can get a targa or vert in the wide body GS. My opinion- don't spend the premium for convertible as you get the same experience from targa top removed plus you have more storage. If open air is important go with the GS. Good Luck in your search!

Get the Z06. You won't regret it if you do, and you might regret it if you don't.

Go drive a Z06 and see if that's what you want or not. End of story.

Whatever your budget can afford. If you are stretching to get a z06, I suggest getting a base. The cost of ownership on a Z is significantly higher.

Buying a Vette is like getting a dick transplant. Yes Sir, our standard models come in a six or eight inch option. Ah, do you have anything in a twelve?

Look for a pampered Z, they're out there.

I pay the same amount of insurance for my 2013 427 (although not a daily driver) as I do for my 2013 f150.

Now I was looking at C6 basic and wanted to mod later down the road with a wide body kit and upgrade the engine performance.

Either way I want to modify either car to the wide body kit because I really love the super aggressive look it gives the car.

What are your thoughts? Is the Z06 worth the extra money if I want to upgrade the body anyways. Thanks for all your input.
I own a GS, and spent a lot of time making the decision. I would love owning a Z and looked at many of them. Price was a big issue, but reality forced me to accept a more practical side . Unfortunately i will rarely be able to track it, so that difference will be missed but not often. Z06 performance is on another level from base, but GS gives you the look and at least SOME performance and other options that arent available in Z. Creature comfort and ride are considerations that shouldnt be overlooked. If you want the baddest fastest car in the line go ZR1 or Z06, and you wont be sorry, but you will always be in a car prepared for racing and feels like it.

What do you want to do with the car ? is something you really need to answer honestly.

If you are hooked on Vettes, like we all are and want the look and feel of a car that most people will never realize or appreciate; join the Brotherhood at a level that makes sense. There are no bad decisions, just buy something you like! Would i be pretty happy in a Z? You bet your ****! But i can tell you im pretty damn happy in my GS too!
