Let's talk pulley's
Just like the title says, Let's talk pulleys
Pro's and con's to upper or crank? Which do you like and why?
Some People run both?
E85 is not avail. in NJ. and I would rather not install Meth in the car.
So 93 with TORCO (for race days or runs in mexico) are my only real options
This is my first SC car BTW...
Thank you!

My research on the forum shows that the lower pulley is the easier and safer install of the two. The upper needs to be pressed off and requires removal of more components. The lower is just bolt on and is easier to reverse. Probably a few hours labor to do lower at a competent shop. Lower also seems to be safer due to MORE belt wrap (less slippage) than the smaller upper that would have LESS belt wrap and greater chance of belt slip.

After learning this I mostly looked at lower pulleys...
Lower options range from 5-18% overdrive. Redline (ATI) makes a 5% and a 15%. Innovators West (most popular it seems) makes a 9% and 18% overdrive versions. 18% seems to be the largest you can run due to subframe clearance. 9% gives you about +3psi (12.5psi) boost over stock (9.5psi). Each psi gives you ~22-25whp. Some have reported the IATs seem to be significantly higher with the 15% and 18% options and creates too much heat. 15% and 18% DEFINITELY needs tuning (and maybe Meth?) while several forum members actually run the 5% and 9% pulleys without tuning (which is NOT recommended of course). Lower IATs with the 5% and 9% pullies obviously.
Hopefully this helps...

I run upper pulley, intake, x pipe, tune and Corsa and saw 610rwhp if that helps. I too did not want to go with the labor of the lower at this point. M7 car

My understanding is that the lower is easier. Seems I could be wrong. I'm getting lower put on this weekend. 15% by lingenfelter. Already have haltech xpipe and magnaflows. No headers. No meth. E85 not available where I am.

I ran lower all last summer with AR long tubes off road X pipe afe intake and made 660Whp I'm also a m7. I'm going to horse power addicts in Delaware on Thursday and putting a procharger

our upper makes the same power & tq as an 18% lower, I personally think it's easier to install as you don't have to jack up the car at all, the blower comes off super fast imo, and you only need a press and a puller to remove the oem pulley and press our hub on.

I am waiting on Joe at CPR to get my headers in and coated and that is what I am doing. I have the Haltech in place with a ported TB already. Hopefully in the next week we should be ready for the install and tune. I will keep you posted.

This does help, thank you very much! I do believe the rad and condensor have to be removed for lower pulley though, You have to press the crank pulley off, that doesn't just slip on and off.

Keep me in the loop as far as numbers, Are you going to be running straight 93 with no meth? If so this the exact combo i am planning to go with. I have my eyes on the Cordes upper pulley fyi

No meth and we only have 91 octane here in AZ. I do run some TORCO to boost the octane for the drag strip and 1/2 mile events.
