Default 1962 Restoratation

We plan to do a frame off restoration of this '62 327/340, 4 speed car. The engine in it now ('67 327) is coming out and we have a correct numbered and cast engine that we are rebuilding to go back in. The car is in pretty good shape. It was originally black; has both tops. We will go back as originally produced. Not an NCRS car but it will be pretty correct (will have non factory a/c). I'll post some progress pictures as we go along. Tks.

Nice acquisition....I hope the car on the two post lift above it doesn't hemorrhage any nasty fluids that can get in the fiberglass of the '62. If it does you'll fight it forever...possibly even years after you lay down new paint!

We had no keys for the car but my good locksmith got all locks working using the codes that were on the door locks and then removing the ignition and somehow getting a key to work in that also. The interior, other than the carpets, in this almost 55 year old car is nice enough to reuse. Will get new seat springs/buns.

We plan to have it off the frame this next week. This car came out of Copiah County, Mississippi, where I grew up. It was originally black and we will be painting it black. My deceased friend was a pharmacist in that County back in the 60's-90's. In '62 he bought a new Corvette, black, 340hp, 4 speed, both tops-just like this one. He traded it in 1966 for a new GTO. There is a chance that this car is that Corvette and we hope to discover if it perhaps is. It was last driven in 1977 and then as a drag racer.

Bottom looks like they lived on a gravel road. It will clean up however.

The fuel pump in the trunk is interesting.

Too bad someone put speaker holes back there.

Looks like a fairly solid car, though.

Fuel pump in trunk: we think they were drag racing this car (see traction bars underneath). The engine has a '67 block and '72-'74 heads w Quadrajet. We are going to fix those speaker holes. It did let us see that the car has a convertible top in there. We did not know that. The car is pretty solid. Thanks.

I hate to say I do not know about that breather. I guess we were going to rig up some type of PVC breather arrangement. We have not quite made it that far yet.

The engine that we have has a distributor (was a dual point distributor converted to a module) with a tach drive 'connection port' on it. On a '62 engine did the tach drive work off of the distributor or did it work off of the generator? This car is gong to be more driver than a NCRS correct car. We had thought of putting an alternator on the engine. Will the tach work properly off of the drive on the distributor? Thanks.

If your car has a hole for the tach cable in the firewall, behind the dizzy, you will need to use the dizzy as your tach drive. I think all '62 cars used tach drive distributors, but I may be mistaken.

I put A/C in my 62 last year. Best thing I ever did. Tood about a week to fix it like I wanted. I wanted it to look as if it might have look if they had A/C in the 62's. I run a Poweremaster Alternator with a Delco tag I rivited on and A sanden Compressor with a Frigidare decal for the look. Painted all lines black to keep the eye off them. Dod the same on A/C vents in the Cab. Also run a Spal Fan 2500 CFM. Tested it in Carlsbad NM at 103 degrees in August It worked great. Good luck on your project.

can you snap a picture of the module that is in the converted distributor ?,, I just purchased a pertronics and it will not bolt up to the dual point plate,i was thinking of leaving the points if the conversion is questionable plus the pertronics has mixed reviews thanks garrett

That a/c set up looks great. We are going do an a/c set up in this car. What brand did you use? Powermaster makes a alternator with the 'generator' look? That, too, is the look we are after. Thanks.
