So the story I bought my FRC this fall knowingly with the shifter not being able to center itself. the car had a mgw shifter in it that was pretty stiff so I swapped it out with a c6 shifter thinking maybe the tension was just too much for the centering spring to overcome... well this was not the case.

Since the car is parked for the winter where I have access to a lift so I went ahead and dropped the transmission to address this issue once and for all. After getting everything on the ground I figured I'd just go ahead and order the new spring and then split the trans when it came in. Well it turns out the spring was discontinued by GM in 2013 and I cannot find one.

What are these companies that rebuild the corvette t-56 using to replace these springs or are they just reusing them? Is there aftermarket reproduction options out there?

I have not called Cultrag. I have looked to see if they have it in their parts diagrams but I am only finding whole transmission assemblies in their online parts diagrams.

Were you able to resolve this issue? I currently have my trans pulled out of my 2000 FRC as well and want to fix the centering issue. 1-2 springs back to center, but the 5-6 position does not. It drives me nuts.

Same here how big of a job is it to fix . Does the trans have to come apart or is there a way to fix it while the trans is still in ?

I did much research last night and have narrowed it down (I think) to the shifter guide block that rests above the shift guide plate at the top of the transmission.

I will be pulling off the rear tailhousing and seeing if I can get to it without too much reassembly. My theory (could be wrong) is that the detent ball/spring is binding up somehow and needs to be diassembled and cleaned.
