Default John's 1968 convertible restoration

Here it is. 1968 Convertible with a 390 horse Big Block and auto trans. Trim tag says Le Mans Blue with medium blue interior. Already pulled the tank and was unable to find a build sheet.

Frame and Birdcage are super nice, but it's still a project. Need to run new fuel line. I know the body has to come off for that. Any recommendations on what to do before I pull the body in general? Or is it just do what you can, when you can?

Won't be able to pull it for a bit (space constraints).

you could just run new lines down in frame with out pulling the body off. if you are just making a driver car and avoid a lot of work.

Hi oc,
I'm curious what you mean when you say "run new lines down in the frame"?
Regards,
Alan

Congrats on the 68. Are you sure you need new fuel lines? Mine needed a good cleaning, but they're original and still on the car.

Sadly the fuel lines have been cut then patched with rubber hoses and clamps....janky.

Default 68 project

Will do. It'll be nice to share and get feedback. Should help keep me motivated to get that next thing fixed then the next. Then it's done! Sounds so easy... hahaha

Default Progress

Gotta go backwards to go forward. I am considering converting the car to a 4 speed which I'm sure has been covered in the past. Do I need to change anything about the wiring harness? I know I need to add a backup light switch a pedal and other odds and ends.

Also, what is everybody's thoughts on sound deadening material? The original jute is actually pretty good but better never hurts.

Welcome aboard!! I got lucky with my verte. Mostly just the wiring, wiper system elecs and vacuum, rear shims, soft top, gauges and fiber optics have been bubba'd. But everything else works sometimes. Haha

68 huh? I am $50K (easy) into a $25K car. Loved every minute od it.
You mentioned wiring. Replace those old harnesses. Not hard and seems to solve a lotta problems.

Default 68 vert

Welcome to the '68 convert club. I was not aware there were so many other tortured souls out there. You will shortly be under water on your parts bill vs what the car is worth, like the rest of us. I've got $75K in a car I could sell for $30K and mine came real pretty.... with new paint, new engine with lotsa chrome, new carpet, new seats, new wheels and tires. But I found she was like an old woman with a new facelift. Have fun! RA
