Default Traction control switching off

Hello fellow Corvette Owners,
My apologies if this issue been discussed before.
This 2005 C6 Corvette is my first. I got it in December 2015 with 58,000 miles. Have not had the opportunity to push the car to feel what it can do until this Tuesday. We bought a property out in the country and move in this last Monday. Between the main highway and the house, I have a good 5 miles of newly paved road, mostly strait on a flat terrain only my neighbor and I travel on.
So the first time I pushed this car was yesterday. Somewhere between 120 and 130, I heard two warning dings, Traction control light lid indicating I no longer have traction control and Service traction control message appeared on the display. Pressing the traction control button did nothing. The car did not change behavior until I slowed down to a stop. When I took off again the transmission shifted hard with a knock.
So I stopped again, turned the car off, waited about 20 second and started it again and drove home under normal conditions. No warning lights or messages. I was able to switch between traction control off and active driving with no problems.
Any one knows what is going on?
Same thing happened again today.

Thank you

After reading some posts on this site and some Literature on other sites, I should add, this road has no bumps. Nothing changes in the cars behavior. Brakes, steering and power are not effected. The only change, and that is if I did not reset (I did not power off and restart the car) the transmission shifts with a jerk and a loud knock.

A message(s) like that can be caused by some kind of fault in the TC system and all it's related sensors/parts, or non-standard relationship between the front and rear tire diameters.

Are wheels & tires stock sizes?

Thank you for your reply. Every thing is stock on that car. Just had the brakes serviced by dealer.

I was just told two days ago by the dealer I bought the car from, my VIN# had two recalls and they verified the recalls were implemented. Run some kind of diagnostics on the car and two hours later when I went back to ask them if they found the problem, all three techs had no clue and said everything is good.

On the way home, on the same road at 126 mph, same problem.

Didn't think much of these cars. I wouldn't even turn my head to look at one if it was parked next to me on a traffic light. I was pushed to test drive this one and fell in love. I traded a 911 Turbo to get it and I will not drive anything else after this, well maybe a Z06 or a ZR1.

So its time to educate myself on Corvettes and how does these different modules Traction Control, Active Handling and ABS work together. Maybe I can figure it out.

Is there a specific test you can run on the speed sensors to check them for faults?

Thanks again for your reply.

WOW. Good luck with your search. I take it no codes were set.
When lightening took out the EBCM in my 2001, all was good until 40 mph then I got messages service AH, TC & ABS and 2 codes were set. Can't imagine why it would wait till 120 mph to have a problem.

I'd also suggest PMing Bill Dearborn. He's always been very helpful to me.

Are you absolutely sure that the front tires are 245-40-18 and the rears are 285-35-19? A tire size issue would be my first thought, just as suggested by Jim above.

Wasn't a direct hit. Struck a yard light pole 10 yards from our attached garage, where the Corvette was parked. Killed the yard light, exploded the fuse for the light in the meter base, killer the stand-by Generac generator and the garage door opener.

Default Finally fixed

Last week, at low speed, one of the shocks was squeaking. Took it to a specialty performance shop on Monday to replace all four corners and replaced the Good Years with Michelins. Today on the way home, no lights, warnings or computer messages.
Thanks to everyone for helping and I hope this helps others.

knock sensors play hell with traction systems too. If the car is misfiring frequently it could be the knock sensors throwing off your torque management and playing with the TC.

Never had an issue with the engine. Last serviced and tuned at the dealer in June. In my case, the problem went away after replacing the shocks.
I cannot say the tires had anything to do with the problem because they are the same size as the Good Years just in Michelin. Front 245/40 18 rear 285/35 19.

You have to have 245/40R18 Front and 285/35R19 in the back regardless of the brand. Otherwise, you will have all sorts of issues. The only reason I switched to Michelins, is because a long time Corvette enthusiast became a customer of mine and took his advice on Michelins having better grip than Good Years.

I have been dealing with this problem for several months now. Took it to the dealer several times and had few parts replaced or checked. I was surprised when the problem went away by replacing the shocks, but the tech at the performance shop was not. When getting the car back, he said both front and back driver side shocks were gone and needed to be replaced. He said the car should drive much better and the problem should be gone, if not just bring it back.
The car is riding better, cornering nicer and dealing with little bumps much smoother. yesterday did 135 for 1/2 a mile, no problems.

Incorrect.

You need to maintain the same overall diameter ratio front to rear, but not those exact tire sizes.

I had this exact same issue. I chased all of the suggested things like loose or corroded connections on the speed sensors, tire size, ect. The problem is in the ECM program. It has to do with a MAF fail code. I tune my own car with HP Tuners, and there is a "LS2 MAF frequency patch" and a "TCS patch" that needs to be applied. This only pertains to some 2005s and ofcourse only automatics. Believe me this works. Google it
