Default Halltech TRIC Tunnel Ram Induction Cold-air

Starting our own thread for questions and answers.

We have the mold CAD program about ready for the mold makers. August 1st still looks good for our launch date.

We just picked up our first 11 TRICs.

We will ship the first 11 on Monday. Sunday will be dedicated to making sure the production version fits as well as our template production unit.

We will also put together some initial installation instructions.

I have one on order, I believe this will be a benefit on the top end of the 1320 when I'm looking for everything the car has.

PS: The part looks like it belongs there.

Sounds like an awesome product.
How much HP and TQ does it increase at the rear wheels?

I am on the fence. I am incredibly impressed with my cai. My reservation is I like to track my car. Last I read the ram air may have an affect on the brake cooling. Has there been any resolve regarding this issue?

I have the DashLogic controller which allows me to see several PIDs on the dash. Anyway, what would be the exact PID I should be looking at to see what temp this will change? For example I have IAT displayed and while the temp shoots up while I'm not driving, it's only about 3 to 8 degrees above ambient while I'm moving which seems pretty good. I'd like to see the high temp problem to understand more about how this will help.

Also, can you please explain to me more about the cat protection that will likely happen at WOT and change the afr. Is this problematic?

Lastly, this will sound like a joke but it's not. Will there be any concern about snow blowing up onto the filter, melting, and getting water in the engine?

Thank you so much. If this thing proves itself at the 1/4 track I'll likely get back on the CAI bandwagon.

Best,
Gene

You could use this "Ram Air Duct" with your OEM C.A.I. using an OEM replacement high flow Green Air Filter which Lingenfelter makes 720 hp with in one of his packages.

PS: A dyno test won't do S....T unless they have a big fan blowing cool air into the duct, for the duct to work as intended the car needs to be moving. A before and after where the rubber meets the road (1/4 mile) will tell the real story in the real world!

Default 12.1 PSI boost

You can see the benefits from this HPTuners screen shot. Boost is 12.1 PSI. This was at the top of third gear around 125. In 2nd gear it made 11.4 PSI which shows that the faster you go, the more boost. When we get back to the track this week, we'll see what 4th gear has to offer.

Look at the IAT. This after 35 minutes of hard running at the track.

No knock retard noted in this testing. Pump 93 Octane. Stock tune, stock everything except the Halltech Stinger-RZ and the TRIC prototype.

AIR FUEL RATIO: 10.4 due to the Cat Over Temp Protection safeguard which kicks in at around 1617 F.

So IAT is the one to look after. Thanks.

Mind answering my other questions above? Thanks!

Around 4300 rpm when and if the cats reach around 1617F fuel is added until they cool down. Safety protocol. There are three different thresholds, each add progressively more fuel. That is one of the first areas of tuning one would attenuate somewhat to keep air fuel ratios a little leaner. Never shut that protocol off completely with FI.

I never drive in the snow. The car will not move. Rain will exit the rear of the TRIC, but if you get a lot of rain, some could get into the induction system. Those that drive through torrential rains would have to be aware of the potential for water soaking the filter, which would wash most of the oil off and reduce filtration significantly.

Water ingestion could happen, so there is that concern if you are in a heavy rain. I would plug the front duct if rain or water levels we high enough.

Since this system is not sealed, airflow from different areas within the F-panel could supply air to the filter. We will have a water channel at the bottom of the TRIC so that all water can exit out the back.

The TRIC is easy enough to install and uninstall, so if you are in a rain prone season, you could take it off, or block the flow to the new port.

Default Progress report

I met with our two engineers and the engineer from the mold company today to review our Rennboard wooden mold pattern this morning. We have made a few minor changes to the pattern, that will incorporate a rain trough at the rear of the part to prevent any water buildup inside the ram air tunnel.

The mold engineer said that they were still on target for the mold completion by the end of July. It may take a few days to get the mold shipped and aged in the oven at our location before it can be used in production. We should see parts and production the 1 week of August.

WE have 27 group purchase pre-orders.

Thanks for these orders.

Great product
I like the fact you guys are working hard to be the best in the business

One question I have
Does this require a tune?

Not that we can tell. Fuel trims are still accurate, and no knock retard at full tilt in 2nd and third.

Tuning would make this car a beast with our setup. All depends on how much you value your warranty.
