M7 Shift ****
For those that have swapped the stock M7 shift **** for a "cue ball" style ****, do you like it? Would you do it again?

I went with the flat stick MGW cue ball set up. I love it.

^^^^ That is really nice looking. Was it easy to install? I assume that the most difficult part is removing the stock unit?

It's not a terribly difficult diy. It's got tons of documentation which makes it a lot easier because there are no surprises. The hardest part for me was getting the rubber boot down under the new shift stick boot. Those that have done it know what I'm talking about.
It does give you the opportunity to lower the easy bake console temp from about 350 to maybe 225 by adding some insulation under it. You just have to adjust your baking times accordingly.

Drifting
This was one of my first mods. I did the same on my C6.
Classic black cue ball to match my black interior.
I wimped out and had my dealer install it. No muss. No fuss.
Double benefit:
#1) Great fit and feel in my hand. Your fingers fit right around it for a good positive grip.
#2) Great look
One of the best cheap mods you can do.

Burning Brakes
If you're ok with the stock shifter, and you just want the round cue ball ****, they're available; and they mount just like your stock **** -- one screw.
The top of the **** will be lowered by about one inch from stock position, and the throw, fore and aft, will be reduced by about 1/2 inch.
This is what I use on my current C7, and it works very well for me.

It shortened throw ~12% by sitting lower on the shift level. (See my measurements in the PDF link of my install below.)
Provides better control of the shift lever side movement. (I often shift from 7th to 4th and back, makes that shift easier. Makes the 5th to 7th shift and getting in reverse easier as well.)
Helps with the 1st to 2nd shift before the trans fluid warms. (Just easier to provide the extra force I find a benefit when trans is cold.)
Feels better in the hand.
Only install issue is getting the chromed ring off! The PDF shows why and how to pull up before rotating and pressing down. You'll see mine required a rag and small channel lock pliers.

I changed to a MGW shifter and likes it a lot as a daily driver. But when I went to Ron Fellow for the 2 day driving and used the standard shifter, I didn't miss my short shifter. The OEM shifter is actually really really good. I think if I have the alcantara shifter I would keep the OEM. I have the leather one and I don't like the feel of leather on my shifter, but that's a very personal thing.

A white ball is faster. I first just added ball from RPI designs then did the MGW flat stick shifter. That is the way to go.

The cue ball design really looks good in the pics.

Thanks for all of the replies. For now I'm going to swap the stock **** only and see what I think.
