C7 Z06 damn fast
Driving over the hill to go to San Jose, Ca............a C7 Z06 was behind me came to a 3 lane red light with a Van in between us..........the light turned red and all I can see is this grey rocket gone in the blink of an eye.......I told my wife that is the fastest street car I have ever seen......and I am a old muscle car fart.............and I thought my C5 was fast.....

Well for 4X what we paid it should be but I don't even want to know how quick those really are. Not sure I have ever seen one out here. However, gotta wonder if some of the guys with their modded beasts are close (in numbers anyway).... Me too for the "old guy muscle car part" I'm a GTO guy from way back... Can't afford the dang things anymore....

Test drove a CPO 2014 Z51... Pretty fast car, although it suffered from a real personality crisis- I honestly didn't feel like I was in a Corvette. Tough to describe. Very quiet, kind of Cadillac numb and overly boosted steering and WAY to much tech. I'm a tech lover, but this was freaking overboard. Quite distracting.
That, in combination with those ghastly Camaro tail lights, and I walked back to Service, smug and kind of happy to pick up my '04.

mod the c5 to the same level or more, I bet that would surprise the c7 guys... a lot of the ones I've ran into seem to think they are superior just because they have a new and expensive car

Very good point; from a purely power-based perspective, the C7 I drove was not shockingly faster than my mildly modded '04- But it felt good- Nice and torquey light to light on part-throttle. I just couldn't get around how damn... civil the car was.

It's not just about straight line speed, there's more to the C7 than that. Quite a bit more. Aero at speed is one major improvement.
If you go through the C7 section you can find some track times guys are putting down. Both road course times and 1/4 miles. The cars are impressive, they get the power to the ground a lot better than the C5, not that that should surprise anyone.
The thing that impresses me most I think is the almost unnaturally quick throttle response in those things. Do those motors ever wake up when you hit the throttle.
I would love to own one.
(and I am not fond of the way it looks either. I'd still own one.)

I haven't driven a C7Z but the C7 Z51 I drove was a lot of car. I disagree with the post above, even with all the tech it still felt like a Corvette to me. It felt familiar inside, yet simply better in every way. It was also very quick, almost felt as light on its feet as my cammed Z. I thought it was pretty impressive, just not $75k impressive. For the money, there is other stuff I'd rather own.

There are a couple of C7Zs around here and I keep hoping one will jump on my little C5. With roughly a couple hundred hp more than they have and a suspension and tires to take advantage of the power, it might make them feel bad for the 100 grand they spent, but so far they've just motored by and either ignored me or given me that half wave.

I run across a ton of C7 Z06s which is honestly a bit odd considering their cost. My local Chevy dealers get fairly high allocation of Z06s for where I live so I see them on the near same frequency as I do a C7 Stingray. Can't even begin to say how much a Laguna Blue Z07 package car may be my newest favorite Corvette ever.
They indeed are quick. I've only seen one playing on the street. I was cruising home one night and came up on a C7 Z06 with the Z07 package and a fourth gen Camaro. The Camaro sounded loud and had a loopy idle but that was all I could really tell. He kept playing with the Z06 on revs, the Z06 just sat there, and when they took off it was absolutely no contest. The Z06 pulled bus lengths, took a coffee break, and checked his stock portfolio before the driver in the Camaro could figure out what was going on.
The only thing that kills me about them - it's a minor gripe - is that the Bowling Green plant REEEEAAAAALLLLLYYYYYY needs to work on their paint skills or at least tweak the machines painting the panels. I was at the NCM when the C7 Z06 first came out and was looking at museum delivery cars. Cars that are costing near six figures and above absolutely should NOT have the degree of orange peel and paint correction needs that some C7s do off the line. There was a what I believe is Daytona Orange colored Z06 with the Z07 package on the delivery lane. Up close it seriously looked like a burnt orange it had that much peel. Looked great from 20 feet away. Then got up close and the paint work was exceptionally disappointing. Very sad, considering I've seen B-spec econo-boxes selling under $20,000 that have superior paint work.

I still hate they call this car "Z06" they should have just stuck with ZR1 and I would have loved to see them do a Z/28 treatment to the C7 NA with LS7 or built LT1, pretty much what they are now doing with the 17 Grand Sport stripped track focused and all but lighter NOT heavier and made that the Z06

Yes, they are very quick right off the showroom floor. I really like my C5, but sure wouldn't complain if a C7 Z06 (or even a base C7) was sitting in my garage. There is just this little problem of the price of admission.

Any Genetation Corvette can be modded to be "faster" than a C7Z06....completely besides the point IMO.
The C7 in general is a technological advancement far superior to its predecessors...I can't help but laugh when people use the "well it costs more, it should be faster arguement" or the "I can mod my car to be faster" or "the look on the C7's owner is priceless when I blow by them in my built C5" you think they care? I sure wouldn't if I had a C7 lol

There is no comparison between a C-7 and a C-5.
I have one of each.
The C-7 is head and shoulders above the C-5 in almost every way.
I love my C-5 and drive it almost every day, but the C-7 experience is simply another ball game.

Never been in one, but based on driving a base c6, if I found sudden wealth.....my sc stroked c5 would be gone for a C7Z06 vert. in a flash, I don't think I would even take a test ride, just pick a color and drive.

If you modded your C5 or C6 to beyond 700rwhp, you will have a hell of a time justifying the move to a C7Z.
