Default WiFi hotspot, who uses it?

WiFi hotspot, who uses it? I know you get 3gb free, but after that, the price per gb is pretty dang steep. I don't plan on buying a data package, let me know if you use the hotspot and what for..

It is too expensive. The performance was good - it was smoking fast. If they would tie it to one of my other data plans and let me share - then I might do it. With the current pricing - it is pretty easy to say no.

My car didn't come with it, but that's ok, I try to only drive, and absolutely not connect on any level,

I feel the same way! Way over priced! I wish I knew where the SIM was, I'd use one from a phone!!

Yeah you can just use your phone for a hotspot if your passenger has a wifi only device. Even adding it for $10 a month to an ATT family plan doesn't make sense.

I used it on a trip a couple of weeks ago since it was free. The speed was pretty decent but it's too expensive for me to use on a regular basis. I put my phone into Hotspot mode if someone needs wifi for an iPad or whatever.

Almost all smart phones have a hot spot feature today, who needs it really.

The one benefit I've found is getting iMessage texts while on a call if you have a CDMA carrier. Or similarly searching data/net info while on a call. Otherwise I find it useless. If you have ATT or T-Mobile then even these points are moot.

Never used it other than to hook up to it while C7 was brand new. Won't be ever turning it on due to expense and redundancy with my phone data plan. I would buy some gigs on it if they were not on a time plan just for back up.

NEWS: DETROIT – Chevrolet is reducing its OnStar 4G LTE data plan pricing by up to 50 percent just in time for the Independence Day weekend, when AAA projects 36 million Americans will drive to holiday destinations.

And this is the typical reality. Until the forum educated me, I thought the hotspot was created via satellite, and so would work anywhere out in the boonies. Not so, as it just uses local cell data. So little to no use for me.

One beneficial thing I did notice from time to time, was the car would pick up a signal better in some local areas where our coverage is borderline. But as I am driving this effect is a benefit for only a short time. I haven't yet driven any longer distance in the car to see if this might help out in the boonies.

WiFi hotspot would have been a cool feature 5 years ago. Its pretty redundant today if you have a smartphone.

You know, Audi really use to tote this feature in their cars. It's cool, if you want to afford it. And I was disappointed when my 2014 didn't come with it. Luckily, my iPhone is equipped with a WiFi hotspot, so my wife uses that when we go on trips.

WiFi hotspot. In a Corvette. LOL

But an improperly cooled Z06 and POS 8 speed automatic transmission. Thanks Tadge. Glad to see your priorities are in order.

The connection can only be as good as the local cell data connection it relies on. So if the car is say using ATT but you are using Sprint on your phone, there could be the situation where in the specific area you are in the ATT signal is strong but the Sprint signal is weak. But realize the other situation can also happen - where the Sprint signal is stronger than the ATT signal. Anybody knows who GM uses?

Meantime this points out the weakness in the forward thinking of GM engineers. Both MyLink Navigation and this Hot Spot thingy have been obsoleted by the fact that most people have cell phones that provide similar and often better functionality. As MP3 USB sticks have replaced the functionality of CDs, thus finally causing GM to not provide a CD option, same should happen to both MyLink Nav and this Hot Spot thing.

Grossly overpriced via GM/Onstar. Phone/internet provider is much, much cheaper.

Between 2 smart phones and an iPad, why would I need yet another connection?
