As a new member and new Vette owner I share my story.
I'll keep it short(lol), after several GT's and a Camaro SS I had my chance to get a 2016 new Corvette. Went ahead and got one pretty decked out(sticker 77000+), signed papers and head home, engine light comes on. OK, too late for dealer, go straight to the house. Get to dealer, engine light still on, they pull in shop, it's off. But showed a misfire, they didn't find anything, send me off.

At 300 miles, light comes home on a short trip, turn to go to dealer, goes off again, just go home.

At 700 miles it's on again, take to dealer, he says it's a problem that needs further examination, bring it back and leave it.

So drop it off on July 12th, they find some kind of problem with #8 cylinder causing a misfire(computer recorded 1800). So it's still there as they tear it down to send head off and pull the piston. After 9 days it's still there and they're talking end of NEXT week. I'm disgusted obviously, not even sure what to do.

And sorry if I havn't stated it just right, I'm not a mechanic. Would sure love to leave it with them if you know what I mean.

It did look good while I had it.

Too bad about your misfortune. Hopefully you'll have it back as-good-as-new soon. Car looks great BTW

Good looking car. Bummer to have happen, for sure. Have some patience. Nobody died. It's under warranty. It will be fixed.

Very true, but oh so hard. By the time I get it back, they will have had it longer than me! I'm really more worried about long term problems, but I do tend to worry too much. Thanks

Sounds just like what is going on with my 2016. At 400 miles light comes on and goes off. Didn't think much about it maybe emissions related. About at 1200 miles same thing again. On my way to take car to dealer to have new wheels installed light comes on and stays on.I tell tech about light. Tech tells me car has misfire on number 8. He says I will have to bring car back and leave it at dealer to get checked out.Guess I will need to make appointment to take it to dealer.

That's a pretty serious misfire if they had to take the piston out. That means the bottom of the engine has been opened up. That's not encouraging.

I understand your frustration. My problem would be once I got it back I would constantly be worried about the next failure.
If there was another problem warranty or not, sensible or not I would be dumping it.

With that few miles on it I'd be talking with them about a buy back on another new C7, some dealers will work with you and offer something up, others will not. Worth a try. Go straight to the top of the dealership not the sales guy.

I had a similar experience. I owned a few vettes for the last 20 years or so, but all were used and the C7 was the first I purchased brand new. With 100 miles on the clock it went in for the dreaded A8 documented troubles (only worse for me). I counted down the days till I qualified to Lemon Law it. Because the tranny was on back order and a shipping screw up, GM had it fixed on the very last day before I qualified to Lemon Law it. I was so fed up I was quite ready to be rid of it. But thankfully so far, it has remained fixed for the last year. The tech did a great job on such a major tare down. So eventually you may get to enjoy it.

But I fully understand what you are going through!

kind of like going to the doctor with a sore hip and waking up in the operating room with a hip replacement. what happened with checking compression, spark plug, coil, wiring and fuel injection before major surgery? unless they had some other indication, i'd want a second opinion first or at least a discussion about what logic they were using to diagnose the problem.

Yes, dig a bit deeper. Need to understand cause and what other diagnostics were done that led them to believe they need to dig into the motor. For me, buyback or new crate motor with extended warranty.. I would not take car back otherwise.

Anyone think it could be loosely related to AFM?

certainly possible.

also woodsguy, if you are checking this thread, i'd be curious to know if there was any physical evidence such as engine running a little rough along with the check engine light.
