Default Anyone using C4 Corvette Rear Window Hatch Vent from Midwest Corvette?? Beware!!

So I have a Rear Window Hatch Vent that allows you to vent the back window.. Like this:

Im driving down the street and I hear a metallic breaking sound and suddenly lots of air in the cabin. I look back and the glass hatch is totally open.. There's even a guy in the car behind me laughing.

I finally get pulled over to a side street to see this has happened to my hatch vent attachment:

So if you have one of these, do know that it is not solid metal and can fail. Hopefully your not on the freeway or something like that.

I'm sure that's not the only item on your car that has failed.

Not sure if he knows the part you are talking about, or gets the fact these are indeed inferior aftermarket gizmos.

I used one like that for years until I got tired of bolting it together. then I bought anther one that is much faster to put on. I can see yours is made of "pot" metal that can be brittle

It IS solid metal. And what you see is just what a cast item looks like when it breaks. It doesn't necessarily mean its made of "pot" metal. Unless there are a bunch of other people with the same problem then it was probably just an imperfection in the casting.

I guess you can want to much of a $40 part..

Ill go look for one that is made of better material because I did like the vent.. just dont want everything in my car flying out if/when the hatch suddenly opens..

Where did you get your better hatch from? are they still in business?

Seen this before with the newer ones, I have and old one and it welded. Been using it for so long I don't even know how old it is maybe over 10 years. They just don't make things like they used to

The old one looks like cast iron, the new one looks like a zinc casting. I wonder if someone has a plastic one.

That is not metal, metal would not break like that. It's either POT METAL or aluminum.

I wouldn't expect that to work in some circumstances. It's all about pounds per square inch. If you hit a bump, how many G's are in that tiny spot, vs. spread across the whole rubber gasket?!? Scary. I'll keep the a/c going instead.

I only ever use mine when I take the top off. Which is very rare these days But when I do have he top off the hatch vent makes a huge improvement

I broke this style twice. They replaced it no questions asked but I was still frustrated (2nd time broke on the interstate during rush hour, 10 minutes into an hour commute).
I now use the ez vent made by gadgetman. It's such a better solution and doesn't require tools.

Can this be purchased anywhere today?

I have 3 different hatch vents and the gadgetman version is the only one I use. He closed shop.
