Hi guys, I just purchased a Hayden 2713 fan clutch. My fan is stock, to the best of my knowledge (5 blades, unevenly spaced).

I found that the "hub" on the new fan clutch is slightly larger in diameter than the hole in the center of the fan, so the fan won't fit onto the clutch.

Has anyone else experienced this?

The other notable difference is that the replacement clutch has slots for the water pump studs, rather than holes.

Go to the Hayden Fan Clutch specification pdf and compare how your old clutch, fan and new clutch compare to the specs. That clutch should fit your fan. Either you have the wrong fan or the clutch was mis-boxed.

For my 78 the non AC fan clutch was smaller than the clutch for a AC equipped car.

Maybe that same issue with yours.

It appears that there are different parts for ac vs non-ac cars, which likely explains my problem.

The Hayden pdf (http://www.haydenauto.com/upload/Hay...n-clutches.pdf) doesn't mention the 2713 part number. But it shows part 215052 for ac cars and part 215065 for non-ac cars.
The dimension in question - the flange diameter - is different for these part numbers (2.58 inches vs 2.59 inches).

I measured my new 2713, and found that the dimension is 2.59. Presumably the old clutch is 2.58 but I can't measure it at the moment.

The Hayden box does indicate part number 2713, and the clutch is stamped with number 271307014.

Usually an adapter piece / insert comes with the clutch so that it can be used with both pump shaft diameters. Have you looked inside the hole in the clutch? It's usually a thin walled pipe that has been sliced up.

I didn't even get that far (installing the clutch onto the pump). My issue was that the clutch flange would not fit through the opening in the fan. Thanks -

1970 used small bolt pattern and pilot shaft, and 71 and later used larger bolt pattern and pilot shaft. I have both 70 and 71 pulleys and can show this if needed. I suspect that you got the later fan clutch and you need earlier.
