Gutted Cats VS Headers
Hey guys got another question so again I'm only 17 and don't have much to spend but I have gutted cats and wondering if they are worth keeping or should save up for headers or other bolt ons what are the pros and cons of each side thanks guys

Gutted cats do nothing but make the car smell of un-burnt fuel at every stop light.
Understand how a header collector works, How is scavenges more burn exhaust out of each header pipe before the head fires down it again, and you understand how on a LS-2 and LS-3 it gains about 25HP to 30HP with LT headers instead. As for even with headers, you run High flow cats in the system. The high flow cats will only rob you of about 3hp, and will keep the car from stinking of un-burnt fuel at every stop light instead.

Even with HI Flow cats you will get a little stink.... I am told it's because the cat location has been moved farther downstream from where the factory cats were and they don't heat up as well . Not sure if that's true or not but I still get a bit of a smell but nothing like the cars that are not running any cats or gutted cats

Maybe that's why it's illegal to have cats in a different place other then factory in California
Thanks man

Burning Brakes
Probably losing or breaking even...better off with a Z06 system as they can be had for cheap and can still get you 15-20 hp over stock with a good tune.

Gutted cats are worthless, ask me how I know... Go for a set of long tubes, I went with Hinson for mine and I love them, new they're $829 shipped to your door, but you could easily find some used for cheaper. I'll add the link for you below.

I agree that headers are the best solution but not for someone that has to pass visual emissions, for those folks the ZO6 is the best solution ......
I was a bit worried about my headers but the guy never looked ....plugged the OBD connection in and ran all the tests ....

To be honest if I lived in that god forsaken state (no offense, just true) I would register in another state where I'm free to modify my car to my hearts content. Heres a header clip for you, this is Hinson Headers with a Billy Boat NPP cat back. https://drive.google.com/open?id=0Bz...3BqNHItV21nN3c

No. Its not true of the Corvette cats. The C6 factory cats are already very high flow and efficient designs. The only thing "Gutting them" does is increase pollution for virtualy no HP gain. As others have said, a decent set of headers, High flow cats and a mild tune will gain you up wards of 40-50 HP and still be smog legal (Except in California)

Headers with high flow cats. That's how I would roll. Hot rodding 101: #1 ...Headers (exhaust)
#2 intake/carb/injectors
#3 cam/ valvetrain
#4 ported heads
Proven steps to horsepower. Btw: any or all of the mods requires a tune.

Anytime you change fuel metering a tune is required for maximize performance, i.e. headers, cam, heads, fuel injectors, etc.

Actually, the LS2 and LS3 cats are smaller than the Z06 cat. My guess is because the LS2 and LS3 have 2 1/2" exhaust and the Z06 has 3" exhaust. The Z06 cats are more efficient. In 2012, corvettes came with a 4 cat system which added two small cats at the mid pipe. Also, a recall for 2008-9 for the addition of the two small cats at the mid pipe was sent out. In CA, if the recall is open you cannot register the car.
