Saturday night drag racing at Portland International Raceway
Saturday night drag racing at Portland International Raceway. 1/4 mile in 11.96 seconds. Not too bad for my first time drag racing.
It was a blast!

Nice! --- Brought my '15 Stingray out to the Wednesday night event @ PIR for the first time (just for the car show and as a spectator) just a few weeks ago. Wanting to head back there soon to test out my own skills on track, as I've yet to give it a try. Any advice, pointers, pros/cons would be appreciated.
Maybe I'll see you on the track one of these days!

Very impressive, especially for the first time drag racing.

The Saturday night drags @ PIR can get pretty crowded with long lines to get through the main entry gate so get there early. Lines form long before the gates open. After paying the $30 drag racing fee at the entry gate upon entering the pit area get in line for a car inspection, its better to do that immediately upon arrival because the inspection line can get really long.
After you complete the inspection paperwork, the inspector will complete his inspection and assign you a drag race car number. Now you're ready to race. You'll see where others line up to race.
As far as the actual race. I used "Launch Control" but even though I followed the launch control procedure I still got a lot of wheel spin at the starting line even through I was Competitive (launch control) Mode. After my first race my rear wheels spun and I peeled out 1/4 way down the track, it very frustrating and confusing. I followed the procedure to the letter and got confirmation in the DIC screen I was in fact in launch control. Hopefully you won't experience the same problem.
Launch Control (Track Mode Only)
Note: steering wheel must be pointed straight
1) Put in track mode
2) Push button 2 times counting One one thousand, two one thousand, pressing on the one and two
3) You will see display tell you that you have entered performance mode, if you don't see that message in the display, it didn't work
4) Hold brake VERY HARD! Equivalent to a panic brake event.
5) Floor gas without hesitating
6) A8 will lurch a little then settle down to about 1800 RPM (this is where I experienced rear wheel spin, even though I was pressing hard on the brake)
7) Let off brake and hold on

Thanks very much for the detailed instructions. I've definitely read mixed reviews on the use of Launch Control. So, it's good to have a practical example from someone, directly.
Thanks again for the info... Hope to see you out there one of these nights!
