Default Invoice vs. supplier pricing

A dealer has offered to sell '17 Z06 at invoice price. What is the difference between invoice and supplier price and how do I verify he is really selling at invoice price?

Ask dealer to see invoice. If legitimate offer, they should be willing to show invoice.

2nd option: Multiply car msrp price before options times 93%
Multiply all options msrp at 91%
Add in shipping.

I bought mine in May and those percentages are latest margins from GM.

Supplier pricing is a few hundred dollars over invoice.

Invoice on a GM is 6-7% off MSRP.

In rounded off % numbers based on a MSRP of $87,345:

- Dealer invoice is 6% off MSRP - $82,525
- Dealer invoice less holdback and approx. wholesale finance credit is 10% off MSRP. Additional money is provided to dealer but hard to find that amount - $78,743
- Employee pricing is 11% off MSRP - $78,155
- Supplier pricing is 7% off MSRP - $81,362

Be careful on invoice pricing. Sometimes there is more than one invoice. The true invoice and the one the dealer uses for negotiation.

Bingo above to Bill D.

Now, c'mon...no one really thinks that a DEALER breaks even or loses money on a Supplier- or GM employee-sold and priced car, do they? And if the dealer doesn't, no one thinks that GM loses, or just breaks even, do they?

I have been wondering how this all works as well. Case in point...I just purchased a new Z06-C7R. The dealer I purchased from allowed me to go pick the car up at an out of state dealer. My dealer gave me GMS pricing(my dad is a retiree), yet I saw the receipt from the dealer that had the car, and what I paid my dealer was about $3400 less than what my dealer paid for the car. While my dealer is very nice, and treats me great, I know that there is no way they lost $3400 selling me a new car. Point being, even if they sell you the car at dealer invoice, they are still making money!

Bill,

Come on man, this isn't my first rodeo. Give me a little more credit than that. This is why I wrote:

The "typical" Dealer Holdback allowance is 3% of MSRP so if your car MSRP is $100K they'll get a separate check/credit of $3K directly from the Manufacturer. This is why the truly "savvy" car buyers can buy below invoice because they have negotiated to take part of the Holdback from the Dealer!

You'd be amazed at how much they are willing to "lose" to get the car off the lot. Most dealers don't own the cars, the banks do. Every month they pay interest payments on every car on the lot to the bank.

The real money for any dealer is after sales. Parts, service etc.

I sold cars for 5 yrs. they weren't Vettes but the business model is the same.

Also with supplier or invoice price, you may not be able to use your GM card points.

One major difference in the two different invoices is a Regional Advertising Fee that the dealership gets charged for each and every vehicle he receives from GM. That won't show up on any of the invoices you can create from the various car pricing websites. Several years ago here in Houston, that charge was nearly $1000 per corvette.

This is from an invoice dealer gave me for a 1LZ.. The dealer IMR and LMA Group Contributions are advertising programs dealers contribute to. If I remember correctly, the dealer IMR is mandatory but the LMA was a dealer option.

2016 LZ Z06 MSRP Invoice

1LZ $79,400.00 $73,842.00 93.0%

AT8 $- $- 91.0%

Sub Total $79,400.00 $73,842.00 93.0%

freight $995.00 $995.00
Dealer IMR Contribution $794.00 1.00%
LMA Group Contributions $500.00 0.63%
Holdback 3% $(2,382.00) 3.00%
$80,395.00 $73,749.00 91.73%

Minus Holdback $(2,382.00)
$76,131.00

Employee Pricing: $70,666.00 89.00%
Supplier Pricing $73,603.80 92.70%

I have found invoice information on Edmunds.com to be accurate. Some dealers will add a local advertising fee onto the actual invoice, and consider it part of the invoice.

When I went through this a few years ago, I recall that the Supplier Price was very close to invoice, but I could not use my GM card points if I went with Supplier pricing. So the dealer and I agreed on invoice pricing and I got to use $1500 or so in card points. I think that the dealer makes a little more $$ if you use supplier pricing because I think that GM may partially subsidize the discount.

Now GMS pricing is employee pricing and that is significantly less than supplier pricing, IIRC (GMS does not stand for GM Supplier).

Invoice. 64448.05
Supplier. 63460.60
Emp. 60969.98
Dealer gets money back on supplier and employee
Will not post because some folks will try an negotiate off what dealer gets back.

You can do better than invoice I think.

Ask around your friends and family and see if anyone can snag you an employee discount. You would be surprised how many are floating around. Once upon a time Les Stanford was advertising employee pricing to everyone and it was the real deal. Worth a call.

Yes. And the two posts that list all the costs incl. invoice, supplier and employee prices illustrate the numbers very well.

During that huge snowstorm about two weeks ago, I saw a dealer in Ohio selling AT DISCOUNT below MSRP! Nice car... white with red interior, Z51, 2LT. It was gone fast. Someone got a great deal!
