White fiberglass / grey fiberglass
I have been doing the slow tedious job of final body work on my '65 convertible this summer. This car seems to be assembled from several cars. Under the many coats of paint & primer, body was blue, trim tag says red. Hood and decklid were originally green, doors were originally red. Under the primer, the body is made of white fiberglass, but the hood and decklid are dark grey. Seems unusual to me, any thoughts?

there can be a mix of white and grey body panels in the cars during the first few months of 65 production until the white disappeared completely.
is your car an early 65 vin?

My mid-production SWC has a mix of grey and light tan panels. I think it may have been two different suppliers. Rockwell was one, but I forget the name of the other.
There is no functional difference between the two, and once under paint, no one knows, but it does look pretty funky when you strip off the paint.

Actually, GM didn't use ANY resins - GM had ZERO in-house fiberglass production or molding capability; all Corvette fiberglass panels were purchased from outside suppliers like Molded Fiber Glass, Rockwell, A.O. Smith, General Tire, GenCorp, etc. There was little rhyme or reason to coloration of the fillers, other than they generally got darker through the midyears, with the 67's being predominantly dark gray or black.
