Default Trans Oil for smooth shifts

Hey all, just like the title says, what trans oil to use for the smoothest shifts?
I'm ordering a short shifter soon and I'll track the car a few times per year if that makes any difference..

All depends on what year car you have.. If you have a 2001-2004, any synthetic ATF will work excellent.

Synthetic ATF is NOT recommended for 97-2000 MN6 cars due to the paper composet blocker rings.

However. AMSOIL Torque Drive AFT is compliant with ALL C5 MN6/MN12 transmissions and works EXCELLENT!

My car is a 99, so I'm pretty sure I have the paper rings. Does MN6 refer to the paper ring transmissions, and MN12 to the later non paper style?

NO... MN6 is designated for 97-2004. MN12 is designated for the ZO6. 2001 was the cutoff date that the MN6 started using different blocker rings.

You have paper blocker rings. YES, a good fresh NON Synthetic ATF will improves your shift quality. You can reap the benefits if synthetic fluid and not damage your MN6 by using the AMSOIL ATF.

So I'm still a little confused. Are you saying I should use a NONsynthetic ATF or I can use the SYNTHETIC Amsoil ATF instread?
When I try to search for amsoil atf I just keep coming across this oil which is formulated as a synthetic for automatic trannies?-

Am I on the right track here?

I switched from Redline to Amsoil Torque Drive, it was the right decision to get rid of notchy shifting. Also doing the anti-venom made a noticeable difference.

Amsoil recommends signature series multi vehicle synthetic atf now for the mn6. Torque drive is still recommended but signature series is 1st Choice according to Amsoil.

You might also try the Anti-Venom Mod if you haven't done it...

Royal purple synchromax is safe for the paper blocker rings. I've been running it for over a year and loved the change it made. Takes a hundred miles or so for the full effect of the different fluid to set in but with that, chopping down my hurst short shift, properly aligning the shifter and solid motor mounts my car is a dream to row gears on.

Should do them one at a time for sure... some say it makes a difference in the 'notchiness" others say it made no difference... it made a difference in ours...

I doubt you'll do back flips with just the Anti Venom Mod... but, if you change fluid, do the Anti Venom, Ranger Method, and up grade shifters you might say WOW that's a huge difference...I upgraded to the C6Z06 shifter and did ALL the other little things and love it now... someday will get the MGW and NEW lower box...

Good idea to start with only one washer.. I'll probably throw the MGW shifter in there sometime this fall. The wife says I have to get rid of all my old subaru stuff first before I dive into mods on this car. Can't remember if they are going to flush the clutch fluid on Monday, I'm going in for service. But if they don't it seems simple enough to diy next weekend..

Clutch fluid flush WITHOUT a remote bleeder is no SIMPLE task... it is doable... from what I've read...but, with my big mitts I don't think it's possible for me...

Correct me if I'm wrong, but the Ranger Method is this-
Take syringe A and evacuate the reservoir. Take syringe B and attach some tubing, fill syringe with new clutch fluid. Attach tubing from syringe B downstream from reservoir and inject. This pushes old fluid out of the line and back into the reservoir. Take syringe A and evacuate the reservoir again. Fill reservoir with new clutch fluid and
